Tasting Blood

For quite a few years now i have avoided running as every timw I do it-even for just a few minutes- I can taste blood.

However I really want to get good at running to improve my fitness and so i went out today hoping I would be ok. I came back with a very strong taste and a pain in my chest after a 15 minute run and it took about 15 minutes for it all to go away.

It's strange because i don't get this with any other exercise. I can cycle, row and dance (e.g. zumba) for ages with no problem, and it takes a while to get out of breath with those exercises too. Only jogging/running seems to affect me.

Has anyone got any ideas of what this is and what I could do to stop it? Thank you!

  • I recommend you see a doctor. From your description, the chest pain is unlikely to be cardiac-related as your exercise tolerance is otherwise excellent however a more thorough medical history is required to come to any firm conclusions re the diagnosis. This is a medical issue and I would advise that you make an appointment with your GP/primary care physician to discuss your symptoms rather than seek advice from the forum. If you can taste blood your GP might consider sending you to an ENT specialist for assessment. Hope that's helpful.

Well it's good to hear it's not likely to be something cardiac-related. I'll go to a doctor about it thanks :)
