What do you put in your Green Smoothies? I love having a green smoothie after a workout or for an afternoon pick me up.

Mine is

handful of baby spinach
frozen blueberries
frozen strawberries
Fat free vanilla yogurt
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
and sometimes a drizzle of honey for a little added sweetness

I want to mix it up a bit more though, I have heard that some add Kale - what else do you add to your smoothies?

I use a basic green smoothie recipe and switch up the greens and sometimes the fruit. I buy my berries fresh and freeze them for later use

    Half a bunch of Kale
    Strawberries
    Blueberries
    2 cups water

Spinach is the easiest on the taste buds imo. Kale is more for the adventurous. Tried mustard greens and I will never do that again!

Some other greens I commonly use:

    Red Chard
    Green Chard
    Dandelion Greens
    Cabbage
Fresh Parsley (Fresh Italian Parsley also works)
    Collard greens

Very simple though. I don't add anything besides the berries, the greens, and 2 cups of water. Sometimes I will use a banana or apple in place of the berries.

I have the Green smoothie revolution book so if you want some recipes from there I can write some out. They use a lot of different items. Also, don't use the stems with the Kale. Super spicy tasting. I usually save those and juice them at the end of the week.

I've never actually tried it with yogurt. I know a lot of people that do. One of these days I'll give that a shot.

I like adding yogurt - it makes it a little creamier.

I'm going to try the Kale - thanks for the tips!

I've made mine with a little kale, a handful of spinach, a cup of frozen mango, a cup of water, a little honey for sweetness and a scoop of unflavored protein powder. Yummy!

My favourite green smoothie has to be a handful of spinach, a carrot, some fresh orange juice, and frozen pineapple.

I never thought about adding carrots - does that blend smooth in a regular blender? I may have to try that tomorrow - I always have carrots in the fridge!

The smaller you cut the carrot the better they blend, diced works best, grated would probably do well too. I find the odd lump but that's usually because I don't blend for as long as I should (have to do it in short sharp bursts so I don't wake the kids lol)

I have the Nutribullet and it blends everything!!

1-leaf green kale (removed the thickest part of the stem)
    5- radish greens
    10- sprigs parsley
    8- red grapes
    1- lemon slice w/ rind
    1/2- small gala apple (cored)
    1/2- stick celery
    2- frozen strawberries
    6- baby carrots
Add clean pure water until almost covered

MFP diary tells me this smoothie is 103 calories. This smoothie is very filling!

    This is delicious and cheap!

This morning's was spinach, granny smith apple, parsley, ice cubes, water and carrots. I think I'll toss in a few berries tomorrow, it was kind of tart this morning. I have a vitamix...I think I could put a tire in that thing and it would shred it!

    My usual smoothie is

    vanilla soy milk
    spinach (fresh, lots)
    banana
    berries

Sometimes I add protein powder, cinnamon and/or omega 3 supplement. If I want it to be more meal-like, I add some oats.

The banana helps it emulsify and get creamy. Avocado can do that, too.

For a refreshing smoothie I do this:

    1 cup coconut water
    1/2 cup pineapple
    Spinach and ice cubes

My morning breakfast smoothie always changes but it always 4 main ingredients:

    1/2 cup non-fat greek yogurt
    1/2 banana
    1 cup spinach
    ice
then I throw in whatever fruit I have on hand and how ever many calories I am willing to use for breakfast

It varies depending on what I have available, but it generally consists of

    Handful of romaine lettuce
    Handful of spinach
    2-3 celery sticks
    1 apple
    1 pear
juice of half of a lemon
    1 banana
    and sometimes parsley is added

I ended up throwing some pureed ginger in the other day after a big workout, and it was surprisingly delicious, if you like the taste of ginger.

This one last night was good.

    Kale
    Two Mangos
    Handful of Blueberries
    4-5 Medium sized strawberries.
    Water
    Ice Cubes

The mangos give it a creamy texture.
