Interesting, but as a former athlete that gained weight and then lost it...
I think it is A LOT easier to lose weight when you have been in shape most of your life and just let yourself go for a while. 6 months really isn't that long of a time for you to get incredibly out of shape. I was a competitive swimmer all my life, even through college. I would take off swimming/exercise for the most part during March-August and while it took a little effort, it never took more than a couple weeks to get back in shape, when it would normally take people YEARS to get into the swimming shape that I was in. You don't just lose all athletic ability and muscle mass when you take some time off.
For one, all of his muscle mass was most likely still there under the fat. So really all he had to do was "cut" the body fat to look like his old self. Plus, he clearly knows HOW to eat, which I think is a big battle for many.
There are COUNTLESS athletes and olympians that take off time for a couple years for personal and injury reasons and then return at full ability will little effort.0 -

There was a similar story about a trainer who did the same thing, and couldn't get the weight back off. I tried to google it, but all I could find was links to this story.0

I think you are absolutely right. What is big about what this guy did is he realized that there has to be more to weight loss then just eating and exercising and actually "walked a mile in their shoes" to see how he could better help them once he was done. I respect that kind of thing in teachers. He doesn't completely understand from the standpoint of someone who has never been in shape or fit, but he now understands that there's more to it then black and white and can better help his customers, hopefully. Of course he may just get all full of himself and start telling his customers "see I weighed as much as you so now I know you can do it."0

If this is the guy I think it is. He lives in Northern Utah. I remember there being an article in the paper about what he was doing. Anyone notice how in the comments on the article everyone is so nasty. I almost hate reading news articles online anymore because people are just so nasty and mean about every single thing.0

Meh, I am willing to bet he lifted getting fat and made it into an out of control bulk. I don't know why, but for some reason, his story and website bother me. I think its because his "supplements I use" or whatever feels salesy to me. Seems like a big stunt.
Plus I agree with the above poster that said that a lot of the trouble is all that you have to learn when you need to lose weight, and he didn't have that.
Still, if it inspires anybody, it was a good thing!
Edit: Okay, I have to revoke the long bulk, apparently he didn't work out, and if anything he looks like he has a little less muscle after.0
