It could be the foods that you are eating. There are certain foods that can keep you awake. It could be cheese, chocolate, spicy food, tomato based sauces, soy, ginseng tea, processed or smoked meat, and cereal.

Well, in the past if I exercise to late in the evening ie around 5pm I will be up all night long and wont get an ounce of sleep. What time do you exercise, also as someone else already mentioned you could be eating a food that is keeping you up late.

Please tell me when you figure it out! I been an insomniac for 4 years now only sleeping 4-5hrs a night but never feeling sluggish or tired when I wake up for work. I don't believe in taking any med's because I like to be all natural.

I just found the culprit in my own weird sleep issue: Maca Root.

I was taking a multi vitamin with Maca Root, which I recently learned is a stimulant. I learned from a vitamin rep at the health food store that Maca Root, Vitamin B6 and ginger root can cause insomnia. I now take a different vitamin, and always take it with lunch.

Search all your supplements, including protein powders for Maca! It really did a number on me. It was like my brain was trying to hold 5 different conversations with itself at once. Now that I'm off of it, I sleep like a baby again.

Also check any pain medications or allergy medicines to see if they can cause sleeplessness.

Good luck! I've been there recently and it's no fun:(

    1. Only sleep in your bedroom, no hanging out.
    2. Keep the TV out of there
    3. White noise like a fan or humidifier
    4. Don't eat an hour or so before bed
    5. Don't ingest caffeine after 12pm
    6. Learn to meditate to relax your mind
    7. Don't do thought intensive things right before bed/write down anything you're worried about so it doesn't keep you up

Nope - alcohol might help you go to sleep, but it messes with deep sleep patterns and leads to wakefulness later in the night.
