Hi!

Its my dad's birthday on the 1st July and I'm looking for ideas for his birthday present.
He was made redundant in December of last year, so I was thinking it would be good to get him something that could be a new hobby, but that doesn't cost too much to keep up.

He loves photography, and historical things.

Should mention we're in the UK

Thanks for any ideas, I'm stumped!!!

The first thing I thought of was a painting of some sort?

Or a day trip to somewhere like Bath where there's a lot of history and he can take some great photos, which combines both his interests? I got my grandparents a day trip on an old steam train a couple years ago and they loved it - the train stopped in Bath too and my grandad took some wicked photos of the old cathedral and had it blown up and framed :)

ooo I could maybe get him some empty photo albums or scrap books, with some guide books & send him off to some different places to fill them up?

    Any other ideas guys?

Bonsai tree. Depending on your area, there may be meetings he can go to and he can get involved with other people into raising them. It can turn in to quite the hobby.

Some bird feeders and flowers that attract birds. He could photograph them and then look them up to see the species. Or...
You could put together a photography scavenger hunt list. Each day take a picture of what is on the list. There are some resources on the net (project 365). Get him a gift card to a place that can develop them and get him some albums or frames for the good ones. Find some photography contests online and encourage him to enter.
