Hi!

I know that soup is generally bad for you in the cans, but I was wondering -- for those few days when I crave soup -- does anyone know of a good soup in the can? Something relatively low in sodium, but tasting good?

Appreciated.

I eat Progresso. They have low sodium options also, but I get the traditional, there sodium levels are not to bad, but I also make sure i drink 8- 10 classes of water that day too. Hope this helps :)

Also I think Organic brands of soup have lower sodium as well!

Annie's has a line of lower sodium soups. Still kinda high, just bump up your water intake & it should be fine.

Amy's organic minestrone. It's actually really tasty. I'm not a vegetarian, but it is meat free! It's located in the health food section of my local kroger and not where the campbell's soups are.

Sometimes I lower the sodium in consdensed soup -- I pour out the broth, leaving just the solids in the can.

Then I make the soup using extra water (and I also throw in some extra frozen veggies).

I also rinse off tuna to lower the sodium.

Sorry, no such thing as low sodium canned (processed) soup. Even those that claim "lower sodium" on the label are terribly high in sodium.

Doctors recommend between 1500-2000mg of sodium per day so MFP's default limit far exceeds this recommendation.

It's best to make your own from scratch using fresh, whole ingredients. Soup freezes well so make a huge batch.

Don't know if there is one near you, but Trader Joe's has some good low sodium organic soups. My favorite is the Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper. I think that one is only about 140 or so for sodium.

    Oooh nice!

Next time I make soup, I'm going to make a lot of it and freeze it.

Definitely going to check out your recommendations, thank you! :)

I've heard a lot of good things about Trader Joe's. Sadly, there isn't one around here. Mmm Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper sound delish! I'll keep an eye out if one pops out here :)
