hi, i am a few weeks into doing zumba usually 3-4 times a week for about 40 min(thats all i can handle), i do it at home on carpet(no other choice). I do it barefooted on the carpet, but i have been having extreme calf burn about 10-20 min into the workout every single day i do it, i thought it would go away after i got used to the workout but it hasnt. it doesnt hurt any during the day or anything just when i start doing zumba, i was wondering if maybe my flat feet have anything to do with it where i am doing it bear footed. thanks for any info.

I find that I can't do any sort of jumping or dancing around without the proper shoes. My calves hurt too much if I don't. I do Zumba in my family room and it is carpeted, but I still where shoes. Maybe try that. It's a little hard to get used to at first, but it may help with the pain.
  • thanks for the quick reply, i suppose i will need to buy some shoes i dont have any athletic shoes because of where they force an arch in my foot it hurts to much to wear them. but maybe i can find some cross training shoes that wont hurt so bad, i was thinking it was the lack of shoes too.

I bought a pair of authentic zumba shoes and it has made a world of difference for me. I used to get pains in my legs and cramps in my feet after Zumba, but not any more.
I found them on ebay. They were $95 with Shipping but worth every single penny!
My feet feel great and I shake my stuff like a pro now.

    Hi there!

I am doing Zumba since last August and have the same issue! I attend 4 classes a week and the instant burning in my calves is too much to bear! As a matter of fact just tonight I had to pull up and stop half hr in. I did some research on here and some say it maybe a lack f magnesium or if you wear heels a lot tendon is really short can cause this. I am trying magnesium supplements and trying to wear flats on the day I have Zumba, no joy yet!!! :(

I would suggest going to a class. Your burn more calories, it's more fun and the floor is much better. If you want to stick to ur house. Go to Zumba.com and purchase the zumbac carpet gliders. They go around your shoe and make it easier for you to dance. I wear them and I'm a licensed instructor. It's greet because I can dance without falling on my face,
