Cell phone at the movies.

I'm 31, so I can remember life without cell phones. When my parents would go to the movies, they'd be gone for a minimum of 3 hours. In that time, the fridge and pantry were where they always were, so I could feed myself. I was not supposed to seriously injure myself or destroy the house in any way. If I failed in either of those last two, I was expected to call 911 if I was conscious. Everything else could wait until they got home.

Can someone explain to me what has changed since the advent of cell phones?

I know one thing that has changed. There are now tons of people going to the movies for the first time since they got their job. Now that there are cell phones, they no longer have to be chained to their desks to keep the world moving.

Yeah, cellphones at the movies are a big problem. Not sure what you're getting at with the job thing. Yeah, some people can leave (sneak out) work and head out to the movies, not that it would be advised to take a call from your boss in a movie theatre. lol

what i want to know is who these people are that had to get a job before they were allowed in the movie theater. i didn't know you had to show your pay stub before they let you buy a ticket.

Maybe he is typing this while at the movies. :) You know trying to text while following what is going on with the movie.

Not sure where you live, but the no texting or talking on the phone is strictly enforced at most theaters here. If you're caught doing it or reported by someone else in the theater you'll be escorted out and not allowed to finish watching the movie.

I think maybe they meant people can watch movies on their cellphone while at work? I know one of my older cousins will sit in her livingroom in front of a 50-something inch TV with digital cable and watch stuff like True Blood on her phone.

I have never seen it enforced. I've reported it before and been given movie passes.

The most common excuse I've heard is that the person using the cell phone needs to be reachable because of work. So I was saying that before cell phones, they must never have been able to go to the movies since their work can't survive without them for 2 hours.

I don't hate cell phones. I love them. I'm asking about the behavior and what has changed in the world that people can't shut them off for 2 hours.

Yeah, he could have meant that, then it's really none of his business what people do with their cellphones. That would be the employers problem, not his. Like the example you gave with your cousins, if that is what they want to do, and it does not affect me in what I'm doing then good for them.

Same here, I have never seen it enforced. I go too many different theaters and it's a problem at all of them.

Fair enough. Next time word your complaint more clearly so we understand what the issue is and you won't have to defend yourself...
