Ladies: I'm going next week to get my first ever brazillian bikini wax. Please share with me the level of pain I can expect. On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the worst pain you have ever felt. Thank you in advance.

**Nervous** :blushing:

The way that I get through it (besides tears!!) is to think of the great aftermath! No shaving for 2 months!!! It's amazing!!!
But ya, it hurts. Not gonna lie. I've done laser down there also... that hurts too!

I don't actually find it that bad although I'll be honest and say the first time it hurts the worst. You can always take a couple of advil before you go. The results are so worth the pain though....I'm sure your partner will agree too! *wink* Enjoy!

I'm going to take a vicodin before I go. LOL I love the idea of no shaving! No more razor bumps, ingrown hairs and extreme itching when it starts to grow back only 3 days later!!!

the first time hurts like crazy

i don't even flinch when I wax now...been waxing for over 15 years now.

Oh biggest tip I have, when she puts the strip on, breathe in, and when she pulls the strip off breathe OUT.

Never had it done. How would one go about finding a good, reliable & safe place?

I'm gonna go for it for the first time soon too, for my wedding. Nervous! Painkillers are going to be a definite.

Doesn't hurt nearly as much as your legs do >.<
Having said that, make sure you trim a bit down there and take a couple of painkillers before you go - you'll be sweet

Yes. Very good advice! I'm an esthetician/waxer. Have been waxing clients (and myself) for 10 years...and the only things I have to add are: Drink lots of water the few days before, dehydrated skin means TIGHT pores. Make sure you go to an experienced waxer (preferably recommended by a friend!) at a reputable salon/spa. I also think someone who uses "hard wax" as opposed to sticky "soft" or "strip wax" for Brazilians is important. The hard wax cools, hardens and is removed without cloth strips, because of this it does not influence the skin the way sticky wax does, it sort of "shrink wraps" the hair shafts and pulls away easily in one piece. Strip wax can actually lift the top layer of skin, esp on the inner labia, because it is a mucus membrane and is thinner, smoother and can be damp...no one wants this, ouch!

Honestly, everyone's level of pain is different depending on the texture and density of their hair growth, but anyone can do it, and it is much easier each time if you repeat every 4-6 weeks. Be brave! You will LOVE the results!

I do it myself and I must say while it takes some psyching up, it doesn't hurt THAT bad (though different areas hurt more than others whilst some areas are actually kinda fun to wax)

It helps if you practice on cars with an old Japanese guy first.

No one's mentioned this, but seriously - don't go within about five days of your period (give or take), or it will probably hurt quite considerably more. There's an actual reason why it hurts more during this time that I can't remember - but having ignored this advice in the past and regretted it, can now vouch for its accuracy!

Also, painkiller before you go, exfoliate the day before. And it doesn't hurt all that much to be honest, depending on what your pain threshold is like. First time will be worse, but you'll quickly desensitise - it's much like eyebrow plucking in that respect.

It hurts but at least it's quick with a professional. My best friend does mine and it takes FOREVER. She is a sadistic *kitten*.

It hurts, but not to the intensity that you might think, especially if you have a good esthetician. I get my eyebrows threaded, and to me, getting my eyebrows threaded hurts more than getting a brazilian. And the more often you get them, the less you have to go because it will grow back more slowly and finer. The first time I went a took a couple of ibuprofens, I can't see whether or not that helped. It only hurts for like a second, if that. Best wishes! :-)
