Hi everyone
i figured bc all of the successful people are on this thread maybe its the place for good advice. Struggling to lose 10 lbs for a long time. I am 5"6 and 150ish. I have tried everything. Lost some weight on ww and then medifast but its been really hard to get back on the wagon after a long hiatus. I was wondering if simply counting calories (and exercise, of course) is enough to lose or do i need to also take carbs and sugar into consideration? tia

Hey there! Honestly, I don't think there should be an elimination of foods when losing weight! You've gotta enjoy the journey but you gotta also find what's helping you lose or what's making you gain. I'd suggest keeping a written food journal and maybe write your mood each time you eat. Keep up with your calories here on MFP and get active!! Eat your calories you burn when you workout.. I stay focused on fruits and veggies and try my best to stay away from processed foods and I try to cook more. I eat 4-5 times a day ESPECIALLY breakfast!!! Keep your carbs but stay focused on the healthier carbs like whole wheat (real whole wheat lol!) bread and pasta. I love biscuits, but I use whole wheat flour instead of white flour and the biscuits are still really good!! Moderation, water, exercise of more than 30mins 5 days a week will hopefully get you going!! HTH! :)

I "low-carb" because of heatlh reasons but I wouldnt suggest it as a lifestyle change for a health individual who doesnt have a medibolic issue or other things going on. I would count calories and do the regular thing since you only have 10lbs to lose.

I don't stress as much as others about carbs but I mostly eat complex carbs and avoid simple sugars (partially because I'm diabetic). For you I'd concentrate on the cals and exercise since you are just starting back. If that doesn't work you can always reduce your carbs.

Eating less calories than your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is all that is required for weight loss.

(note: what is required for good health is a different story altogether)

This counting calorie thing works for me and I love to and do eat carbs. In my opinion, portion control is the much healthier and more permanent way to lose weight vice Weight watchers or Atkins or any of those other "diets". Unless there are medical reasons for eliminitating or minimizing carbs, you shouldn't. Again just my opinion.
