Back to exercise after a break - how to keep it up?!!

Hi
Me and the gym have a turbulent relationship. It's either love or hate - nothing steady!
Basically I'm going back to the gym after a long while of not going and want some ideas on how NOT to give up! I always go hard out at first and then give up as I don't see results quick enough.
Any ideas for an introductory workout also?
I always feel clueless in there.

Maybe the gym is the problem? Is there anything you like to do that is cardio related? Are you lifting only? What is your goal? Do you want to tone or lose weight or be healthy or all of the above?
For me, my main goal is to be healthy. Being healthy means I have to lose weight, eat right, and do my cardio 12 days out of 14.
Decide what you want from your ride then get in that corvette and start the engine (or maybe you're more of a BMW or Porsche?)

Bit gutted nobody else replied to this... I'm unsure what to do to reach my goals. Basically want to lose 10kg... I'm not doing anything at the moment and need help.
