Questions about the new rules of lifting weights for women.

I have some questions about this. It's just a book right? But it's got the workouts included in this, correct? Okay, will this be something good for me if I have about 40 pounds to lose, or is this better for someone who is closer to their goal weight? Also, how heavy weights does one need? What kind of weights would I need to get? Would this be something you can do at home if you have the different weights, or do you really need to do it at the gym? Thanks!
