I was wondering if you can get your heart rate too high, that it's dangerous?
When I run, or walk, my average Heart rate is 150-170. but this morning I was on my elliptical, and really was pushing myself hard, and my heart rate was 185-191 the majority of the time. And it felt like my heart was just going to pump right out.

Yes, it can. You should adjust your heart rate according to your age. I don't have a chart in front of me but at 42 years old I try to keep mine 125 - 165 when exercising. When I go over 165 I usually cut back even though some charts say I can get as high as 175.
Google heart rate chart and that might help.
