OK, I felt a little soreness yesterday but proceeded with JM 30DS anyway. Today, I popped in the DVD to do D3 and my legs are just killing me. I'm afraid if I push it I may get hurt! I mean even the jumping jacks were hurting. I'm not afraid of the pain, I actually like it. Shows me that I am making a difference.

Anyhow, is there anything I can do that will continue my exercise. I just started last Friday and really want to develop a routine and stick with it. I was hoping to exercise at least 5 days a week. Is that too much to start out with?

Any ideas?? BTW, I exercise at home with DVDs since I can't get out due to little ones. Thanks for all your help!

Assuming that your muscles are sore and not injured, then you once you get going, you will loosen up.

I don't think that 5 times a week is too much at all. If you are just starting, you might want to do 5 times a week plus a walk at some point later in your day if you can to keep from tightening up so much.

    Stick with it!!

    I love DOMS too!

Doing a heavy leg workout and then having a SUPER hard time sitting down the next few days because my legs are SO sore make me smile.

I don't think 5 days a week is too much, but just don't overdo it to the extent that you'd burn out.

What you're dealing with is probably lactic acid buildup in your muscles from initiating the first workout. When you start working out, your muscles will be pretty sore on your 2nd day, and on your 3rd day they will be even more sore. However, if you keep working out, even with the soreness, by day 4 you should be feeling better as continuing to work out will break up that lactic acid buildup. However, if you are hurting because you strained something, then you need to take time off and let your muscles heal.

Be cautious, but assuming you want to give it ago. Don't expect to perform as well as you may otherwise have, but you can give it a shot. Stop if it hurts though.

Another option is to do some yoga or stretch and work on mobility and recovery.

Thanks ninakale ... after reading your post I just went for it! Yes, I did modify somewhat due to not wants to over exert myself ... but now am SOOOO glad I did it!! Half the battle is just getting up and doing it!!

Thanks for all the ideas ... I think I will go for a walk later, and also some stretching exercises as well. That should definitely help out!!

YAY for doing it!! Thanks guys for your motivation, kind words, and advice!!

    LOVE MFP!!!

I don't think there is enough stretching at the end of the workout. I do extra. And I also try to get a walk in some days. It really helps.

The same thing happened to me on day 3 of the shred...I just kept going and pushed through. I was not able to do it with as much vigor as the first day or so but I just kept moving and trying and by day 5 or 6 or so it was all gone and i felt great!

I cannot stress enough how much stretching before and after workouts helps me. I also think it helps prevent some joint issues for me

Do a more mellow workout. I foam roll before I workout when I'm sore and find working out really helps take away the soreness. I also drink pure cherry juice to reduce inflammation, it works wonders.

I hear ya, I did squats for the first time in a while two days ago and I'm still sore. I'll be going back for more today though.

i felt the exact same! but a couple of my girls on MFP encouraged me to work through it! it was real rough, but i did it.. and i'm not on day 7 on 30DS. and i feel great now! plus i also agree with a few of you, she doesn't do enough stretching at the end, and i also continue for an extra 5 minutes of stretching.. i also do 5 minutes of stretching before i even turn the dvd on. and since doing that, i've noticed a GREAT difference.

in LOVE with the 30DS! i'd recommend it to anyone!

Definitely going to take y'alls advice. Stretch more before and after 30DS and walk a bit at night.

Tonight all I did was a brisk walk around the playground where my 2 boys were playing ... they got some fun, and I got to walk!

Never in a million years did I think of doing that before! Normally I would just stand there or sit on the bench if there was room!!

Aye, sometimes a little hair of the dog is what you need for that soreness. As soon as I start working out I can feel it fading away.
