Feeling sorry myself after discover of injury

Hey folks I've been feeling seriously sorry for myself after I got results from an ankle injury that is nearly 1 1/2yr old (waiting times for MRI in Ireland are cruel if you are public!). It's an OCL (ostrocondrial lession) of the talus and I could be waiting another while (poss. 1-2yr) for surgery which is the only treatment for this type of injury ( )
So I'm looking for advice on how to re-motivate myself.....
Had just got a puppy a few weeks before I got the results and had been jogging with her (with some pain which has now been explained!). GP and physio have said no high impact exercise therefore jogging, hill walking, my beloved windsurfing etc are out (cried when I found out org as my windsurfing had been going well along with a little weight loss which was what I wanted.)
I have just bought a bike (after my old one was stolen, I must have been pinching babies in my sleep or something for this!) and want to get back out there but I'm gone so soft I'm afraid I'll do myself another injury (the org one happened while biking) and I'm short on time therefore I'm trying to find time to train and exercise the puppy and then myself.....which doesn't seem to mix too well at the moment. My eventual plan is to bike with her but we're a good way away from that....both of us!
So what do people think will work well and how do I get my head back in the game, I have a sneaking suspicion I need to look at my diet which has gone to the dogs (she eats better than me!). I am eating lots more sugar than I have in years which is most likely due to self pity.
Let the *kitten* kicking begin!
Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your injury and that really sucks about your healthcare system (I'll reframe from turning this into a political debate.)
While exercise is great what losing weight boils down to is calories in/calories out. You need to eat less then you body uses in a day. That means you will need to work on your diet.
Use this site to calculate your calories, choose sedentary as your activity level then eat at your calorie goal everyday.
edit: and I just want to add that biking is a great option as exercise for both you and your pups (when he's trained to run along with you)

Sorry to hear about your injury-that stinks. And you don't need an *kitten*-kicking, just some reality.
If your exercise plans are on hold or curtailed while you wait for surgery, then you need to get your diet in check. You don't have to go organo-whole foods-crazy, but do keep track of what you're eating and try to make choices to use your calories on foods that actually have some nutritional value. It's possible to lose weight with zero exercise, but you have to rely on your diet alone to create a calorie deficit.
The good news is that it sounds like you CAN still exercise-just not high impact. I have a 6-month old demon-spawn puppy who NEEDS exercise-a lot of walks do her a world of good. Coincidentally-walking burns calories for you too-so win-win.
You may not be able to do all the things you want to do until you recover, but you have a lot of options and you can absolutely lose weight and get healthier within the constraints you have.
Best of luck-you can do this.0
