The main reason I joined MFP was to lose some weight before my tubal reversal surgery in Chapel Hill, NC. I've come down 2.8% with my BMI & would like another 2.1(ish)% so that I'm not "overweight."

Anyways...the time has come & I will be out there next week for 5 days, wahhhooooooo!!!! I MADE IT!!!
(I will be back after recovery because I've learned this is a lifestyle & I love it - Thank you MFP's!!)

Anyways, back to the subject of the post: What do you do for fun, recommend as a must see, a great place to eat, in Chapel Hill & the surrounding areas? I would LOVE to make it to Myrtle Beach for one of the days, however I'm curious if there was something else to do that is closer because that is a 4 hour drive one way, or any other suggestions? I've never been out to the East coast. I've only gotten as far as Bristol & I probably won't make it out that way again. Thanks.

Some people I've talked to have also suggested some things:

    1. mountains
    2. Mama Dips
    3. Ackland Museum
    4. Wrightsville Beach

Any of these something that I "shouldn't" miss?

It really depends on what you like to do. Old Salem is fun for a day trip: http://www.oldsalem.org/

I prefer the Outer Banks when it comes to the beaches. Duck is awesome, as is Corolla. In Corolla, the wild horses are right on the beach. Beaufort, NC is pretty fun, too. In my opinion, Myrtle Beach is tacky, I'm not into all the neon lights and signs.

Eno River park in Durham is really pretty.

If you don't mind spending some money, the Fearrington House is suppose to be awesome: http://www.fearrington.com/house/

At the other end of the state, Hickory and Asheville are really neat towns up in the mountains.

Thank you very much on the outer beach suggestion! We basically want to get to the Atlantic Ocean, all we have are these (beautiful) lakes

I plan to look at these links as well. Again, thank you so very much!
