Making up for a bad day?

My fiancé took me out for a three-course meal last night (thanks Groupon...) so I went way over my calories (by about 1500, yikes!). I was thinking the best thing to do would be to get in two good calorie- burning workouts today and tomorrow and just not eat back my exercise calories, which I'd normally do. I think this makes sense, but I'm curious if any one else has used this strategy and felt it was successful? I know a lot of people count weekly calories, not daily, so maybe this is similar?

I go back to my usual routine, same eating but push myself a bit harder in my workout the next day. One misstep will not derail you completely...one small step at a time. And remember, you didn't even go over enough to gain a pound, so you'll likely make up for it in weeks to come. Don't stress out about it and start fresh

I think counting daily is good to keep you on track but if I know I am going to have a big event sometimes I will save 100 or 200 calories a day the rest of the week to make up for it. I try not to do anything too drastic to alter my eating plans and the previous poster is right - it wasn't even enough to gain a pound so you will definitely make it up quickly!

I think your plan sounds good. I like to make up for it the next day--it is good for my motivation. For some people, it's psychologically not the best to worry about making up for it. Depends on you.

I workout harder the next day and try not to eat carbs, cheese or dessert.

Thanks all! Supplemented gym time with a walk to the beach and feeling much better about the counts for this week :)
