Should diabetics eat their calories back after exercising. I don't want to raise my blood sugar by eating more carbs and haven't read anywhere that exercising allows you to eat more carbs as a diabetic. I know I could eat food that doesn't have carbs like protein but I was told by my doctor to watch my protein levels also. Please share your experiences with me. Thanks in advance for the advise.

Type 2 diabetic here. I discovered that weight lifting, HIIT or any anaerobic activity helps me a lot with diabetes so which is why I can eat more carbs.

Why watch your protein levels too? Do you have hypertension?

type 2 also and my dr has actually changed his tune on low carb high protien diets, they are actually endorsing it now but with healthy fats and lean cuts of meat , poultry and fish. I keep my carbs at 25%, protein at 45% and fat at 30%. I eat back most of my exercise calories, and usually stick close to this .. I have been consistantly losing (slowly which is fine) and will agree weight lifting will help you gain control of your glucose.

I eat all of my exercise calories. I am never satified with 1200 calories per day, so earning more calories through exercise allows me to eat enough to be comfortable. I plan the higher level throughout the day, not all at once after exercise. That lets me keep each meal at an appropriate size and time.

I don't know if they should, I think if you're hungry then yes you should but I don't believe in eating back calories, every body is different so it needs different nutrients and the like.
If you're worried about raising your glucose I'd suggest something high in fiber as the fiber helps with the levels.
Everybody grows accustomed to meals and such as well...
When I Started herbalife my levels would drop amazingly low (randomly it seemed) but now I'm fine and can go for hours after having one as if I had just had a giant meal.
I hope you find the answer your body needs! Good luck to you!
