OK so I know that you can't target a location for fat loss. My question is, if I want to loose my huge thighs and hips, would running (a few times a week) and walking up and down stairs (5 days a week) make my muscles bigger or will they thin out with this kind of cardio. Please help!!

running won't make your muscles larger (unless you had very under developed muscles in the legs to start with), stairs might a little, but not a ton. These activities will tone muscles, and stretching and yoga can lengthen muscles though, which will give the appearance of them being thinner without reducing actual muscle size.

The thighs are actually made up of four sizeable muscle groups, including the quadriceps at the front, hamstrings at the rear, adductors on the inner thigh and abductors to the outer. So, in order to achieve the best all-over toning, you have to perform a wide range of exercises that will move and work your legs in different ways. Squats, lunges and side leg lifts will all help you hit your goal of toning and trimming the leg area.

Here is one of my favourite exercises that you can try at home, and you don’t need any specialist equipment. It is quite taxing, so doing it regularly should produce quick results.

SINGLE LEG SQUAT. Stand on one leg, hold the back of a chair. Then slowly squat down by bending the supporting knee, aiming to lower the buttocks and also push them slightly backwards. Go as slow as is comfortable, then return back to the upright position. Ensure your abdominals are pulled in tight all the time, and don’t twist your hips, knees or ankles. Aim for around 15 reps on each leg.

Hope the above is helpful and good luck.

haha.. I got thunder thighs too ... I'm more concerned about my 'grandma arms' or Oprah Winfrey' arms. I've been working at toning them like crazy although I know you can't really target an area

Those are both excellent calorie/ fat burning exercises, your legs wont get bigger from doing either though. You'll trim fat and develop/ maintain lean muscle so your legs will thin out.

Your arms can't possibly be as bad as mine - trust me on that. I can hypnotize somebody with my arms.
In my younger life I was a pitcher for softball so I had huge arms and strength. .. now I have sagging... like 3-4 inches.
