Weight Loss, Then Gain, Then Loss...normal?!

So I started this whole weight loss journey & I've been keeping track of my weight (that's a duh I know, sorry). The 1st week I lost a pound....then I lost 3 the next..the following week I gained 2 pounds back...this week I lost another. I realize that I've been eating differently & also doing cardio & weight training @ the gym multiple times a week...& I guess TECHNICALLY losing a total of 3 pounds in 30 days is in track?!? (My goal is to lose 1 pound a week), but its it normal 2 lose, then gain & lose like this?! Mind u, I've never done any weight loss of any type before...so I'm kinda in the dark here. Anyone know if my situation is "normal" or if maybe my yoyo weight means I'm doing things wrong.....

It's normal for me. It takes time for the body to adjust to all the new things - more exercise, different foods, different amounts of calories as your eating habits and needs change. A new workout will usually result in a couple pounds gained for me, but it's just water weight as the muscles are fatigued and more water is retained (or something like that, I'm no expert).
I'm down to my last few pounds to go, and the weight comes off slowly. I lose a pound or more in one week, then I'll go back up one or two, then it comes off again. Lots of reasons - water, sodium, workouts, time of the month, etc.0 -
Ok, it's good 2 know it's "not just me" THX so much 4 your input.
I've been trying 2 keep my water intake up 2 about 6+ glasses a day, which is an increase form 0...drank lots of milk & juice before....maybe my body just isn't used 2 that yet!?
Yeah..I know it takes time 2 lose the pounds...I just was feeling a lil frustrated when the pounds I lost came back....I just wanted 2 make sure it wasn't something "wrong" on my part that was the cause 4 the couple pound gain back since I've really been watching my calorie intake & was exercising etc I only expected 2 c pound drop...not come back...0 -
Completely normal. Your body is fluctuating in weight all day and a few pounds here or there is a normal variance. Try to weigh yourself the same time and under the same conditions. Like for me, my "official" weigh in is Friday mornings, after my workout. That's the only one I track and care about. If I weigh myself before the workout, or on a Wednesday afternoon, or Monday after carb loading thru the weekend (that's my code for eating a ton of pizza), the number is way off, but Friday morning it's right back in line.
Also, anytime I switch up my routines or my diet my weight loss graph starts looking like a ride at Six Flags. Ultimately it keeps tracking downward tho. Sounds like you're doing fine.0 -
I am having the exact same problem, I think im gonna just throw away my scale!!!!
It frustrating I do 4-5 days a week of intense cardio (insanity) plus some moderate weight lifting. Cutting down on bad carbs (only whole wheat). Been doing this for almost a month and the only change I see is my cardio is really a whole lot better. UGH! I feel ya!0
