Sore!

I'm in my first week of C25K (day 3 is tomorrow) - and I am so sore! Mostly my calves, but my inner thighs are a little sore too - I expected a little of this because I've not been a runner in years, but did not expect this intensity. I stretched for a good long time yesterday after my d2 workout though and that helped a little. Just wondering - for those of you who have gotten back into running, how long did it take for the soreness to stop, or at least decrease, and for your body to adjust to a new activity?

Assuming you have proper shoes and whatnot, it will take a couple days to get through the DOMS, and shouldn't bother you too much after that initial soreness until you make significant changes to your program again. It will probably feel better if you force yourself to keep moving while you're sore...maybe just back the intensity down to 50-75% for a couple days. Take an NSAID too.0

Took about a week for my soreness to stop and my body to start adjusting when I started running. What really helped me was soaking in a hot bath and stretching for about 15 minutes before and after running.0

Have you tried taking any post workout protein or anything like that? Might be better for you to wait after you've started to get use to running , but there's that option.0

I was totally inactive when I started so was super sore that first week too...didn't know if I could push through it, but each week has gotten a little better. This is week four and much less sore. Hopefully you have good running shoes. Switching to good shoes after week one helped tremendously. I took two days between runs the first two weeks. Now every other day is working. I still have the tendency to push too hard and too fast. If you can hold yourself back and increase in small increments that will help. It's OK to repeat week one if you need to too. Drink plenty of water before and after too. Finally, hot baths or hot tubs are miraculous . Keep it up...you can do it!0

Thanks everyone! Definitely pushing through and excited to get fitter and stronger.
I'm not sure if my shoes are "good shoes" or not. They're definitely athletic shoes, but I can't find anything on them that indicates if they're running shoes or not (I have another pair that says "walking/trail", so I was trying to find something similar). How can I tell? Can't afford new shoes right now, so I'm hoping mine are workable for a bit, but I'd like to confirm.
Tell me more about the protein - like a shake, or protein in general - and does that help?0 -
