Is it because my body is fine at this weight?
My BMI is 19.8. I've been all over with my weight. Highest BMI 25. I was fat. It was gross. Then I went to a whole new extreme a year later and was at a dangerous BMI of 15 due to anorexia.
Now I'm at 19.8-20.
I'd like to lose..10 pounds and my doctor even said it would be fine. I can't seem to lose weight though! My dairy's open so..please help!

I don't think that losing weight is a good idea while you are recovering from an eating disorder. Particularly if you are not in treatment. Good luck to you but please think this through.0
-
I'm eating enough though now. Even my doctor said it's alright!0

I'm very petite. ( under 5 feet tall ) and I have a small/medium frame ( I dont even know honestly ) This is really hard for me to be at this weight. My doctor said 5-10 pounds really wouldn't hurt me at all.0

What is your body fat percentage? How tall are you? How much do you weigh? BMI really doesn't tell much, someone can be considered 'obese' by BMI standards and have almost no fat on them.
In general, I would suggest that instead of trying to lose weight, perhaps just try to tone up so that you look smaller? Try to do some strength training; a lot of women on this site swear by The New Rules of Lifting For Women.0 -
Try cutting back on the carbohydrate intake and drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Be careful and good luck.0
-
Your profile says you are trying to recover from an eating disorder alone. That tells me that your doctor is probably just your general practitioner, NOT someone who is treating you for anorexia. As such he does not have all the information so his opinion of you losing weight is incorrect. If you are trying to lose weight while in recovery, then it doesn't sound to me like you're really in recovery. I strongly advise you to get some help with this before you even think about losing weight.0

You excercise quite a bit and eat pretty good.. I wouldn't sweat it so bad that you aren't losing a lot of weight.. afterall it does take time to lose it.0

I feel like if your BMI is 20 and you're under 5 feet tall losing 10 pounds will put you at a BMI thats borderline underweight. I would say spend some time in the gym lifting, and lift heavy to tone up and get rid of some body fat. Like the person up there said, BMI is really a bad measure, I'm borderline "overweight" according to my BMI but yet I'm still a size 2/4 depending on the clothing and will probably not lose any weight but inches when I start New Rules of Lifting for Women on Monday. You can be thin all you want, but skinny girls have cellulite (not saying you do, but saying what happens when you focus on weight and not on muscle tone) and that only goes away and you will always feel "flabby" if you don't start working on your muscle strength/tone0

I think that losing weight even in recovery from an eating disorder is fine. So long as you stay vigilant and make sure that you don't start doing the "if I just skip dinner I'll be that much closer to X lbs."
In fact, the best approach would probably to focus on recomposition (changing your ratio of fat:muscle) so that you won't look as "soft." And I'm not calling you soft, I didn't actually look at your profile, I'm just saying that if you gained muscle, you would look slimmer at a higher weight, which would appease the BMI chart and you/your self image.
Best wishes!0 -
You should drink water, or are you just not counting it in with your daily diet? How long have you been trying to loose the 10 pounds?0

I'm very petite. don't worry, I'm not going to get that low ever again. My parent's are keeping an eye on me. I'm smarter then that.
I'm less then 5 feet tall, Very small Okay? I don't have any disorder or problem that make's me small, I'm just short in height because my parents are and I just..am. I really don't look good at all since I'm so tiny height wise.0 -

I don't count it. I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day0 -

How about not running her life for her. She probably sacrificed most of her lean mass during ED days and very well may look fatter at a low weight than someone who hasn't had an ED. She probably also screwed her metabolism to hell, and I haven't read anything about how to deal with that. So, while I think that the best approach is to build lean mass and perhaps cut fat later, it is absolutely none of my (or your) business if she chooses not to do so. If anything, people not giving her good advice could result in her leaning on her "tried and true" methods. She thinks she is strong enough to handle this and needs support, not people questioning her strength.0 -
You need to fuel the furnace. Your deficits are too high...and another poster was right your doctor may not know what is best for you if he/she is not an eating disorder doc. Many times MDs will say whatever they think the patient wants to hear, ask the nurse!0

I'm trying to figure out where exactly the goal of 50 pounds was seen or if it was just an assumption... In any case, my comment of "be careful" was intended to mean don't lose too much or be too concerned about numbers. I should have spelled it out. Honestly, you probably already look great and have nothing to worry about. We tend to base too much on a number shown on the scale that oftentimes, we can't see that we're okay even if the number isn't what is programmed in our heads. Let me reiterate, Be Careful!0 -

I did have that goal on my profile, I erased it though. It was silly and I know I would only be harming myself again if I got that low of a weight. I will be careful..If I manage to lose any weight. I might just work on toning up if I can.0 -

Make absolutely certain you are still working on overcoming the disorder... If the thoughts of being 50 pounds are still there, then it may still be an issue. Obtaining a certified nutritionist may be a great idea for you. They can help in so many ways. Being underweight is as unattractive and unhealthy as being obese. Just a thought.0 -
Take your weight and multiply it by .6 then whatever that number is divide it by 8. Whatever the number is after you divide it by 8 is the amount of water you should drink a day.0
-
I drink alot of water ( ..sometimes. I'm slacking lately )
If I cut down my carbs, could that help somewhat?0 -
I am thinking you probably at that lower BMI do not need to lose weight...but it is possible strength training and muscle building will give the shape and look you are wanting to achieve. And in order to build lean muscle mass which is what makes a body shaped you have to eat sufficient protein and calories. Check out the group Eat more to weigh less...this i a group of women who are all trying to fuel and eat what their body needs for a maintainable and enjoyable life. I wish you the best in this journey!0

Your supposed to take in at least a certain amount of carbs a day, but cutting them out should help you drop weight, its just not the best thing for you. And I read your message about drinking 8-10 glasses a day, I just told you about the first multiply and then divide because that will tell you how much water you are supposed to drink for your weight. There is such a thing as drinking too much water. The bigger you are the more water you need to drink, so since you are smaller and the weight you want to be is smaller than what you currently are you may be taking in too much water and causing yourself to carry around more water weight than you need.0

you did 13 hours of exercise the other day?
make sure you are recording correctly.
then you can eat back all your calories and still lose any excess fat if you still have any fat that is......0 -

Do you way 70 pounds?0
-
Clearly you are still working through some issues and at this time your mental health is the priority NOT losing 10 pounds. The fact that you have focused in on those few pounds is a sure sign you are not recovered. That and the insane amount of calories burned through exercising!!!!!! Just how much are you exercising a day?!?! You have put your body through so much stress these last few years it needs to recover.
Please seek counseling with a qualified professional!!!!0 -

Just and FYI and this mostly to anyone else who posts in this or any thread referencing a Medical or Nutrition professional, if you've been to a doctor they've steered in some direction that's not MFP.
I say this because I have gone to many Medical and Nutritional professionals, and NONE of them told me to "jsut lose weight." They gave me some details and some round about instructions on how to go about it, and some monitoring if I wasn't seeing results.
the best thing for this poster, and any other poster referecing these professionals is to continue to seek guidance with them.0 -
I'll give you an example with my starting weight. 158lbs x 0.6 = 94.8 oz / 8 oz = 11.85 glasses of water a day. If you did the equation right then you must way 70 lbs. Which if you are 23 as your profile says is unhealthy for your age because age also figures into what a person should weight as well as the peson's body build and gender and some other factors.0
