I can't seem to break the cycle, It started before christmas and it seems one week I'm eating EXTREMELY healthy (not much) and exercising a whole lot then the next eating WAY TOO much!! Then I will go back to eating too less as I feel bad for eating so much then it happens again.

Has anyone expeierenced this or got any advice? I'm so fed up of it!! I really need to find some sort of balance/consistency. It must put my body under so much stress.

Try aiming for somewhere in the middle. You may be trying to do too much at one time. It's OK to start with small, sustainable changes.
  • Yes, that's what I do. Like one week I'll eat really low carb just lean protein and veg then the next eat a ton of crap. It's just after i've ate the crap I go back to so little to make up for it but then it happens again :(

Stop trying to make up for it. Find a smaller, reasonable goal and accomplish that. Once you're comfortable with it, set an additional goal. For instance if you want to go low carb, find the average of what you're eating now and what you want to eat, and set that as your first goal.

I used to be that way, and it was because I was trying to be perfect when I was "on" my diet. If you can do like ElizabethRoad said and make small changes, you're more likely to stop the all or nothing behavior. Being obsessive only drives a person crazy, trust me. You can always go back to it if moderation doesn't work out, but I think you'll find you like the middle-ground approach much better. :flowerforyou:
  • Thank you. Yes you're right going back will only lead to the same thing. For instance this week I went so extreme with my diet/exercise was like a zombie all week, barely spoke to anyone. Then the past 2 days I've ate a ton as I felt so restricted. Now I have the urge to go back extreme tomorrow. But I know that won't solve anything.
I will have to try find a 'middle-ground'.

Another thing - if you end up splurging one day and go way over your calories, (or carbs or whatever you are tracking), don't worry about it too much. Just pick up where you left off and get back on track.
  • I think that's what messes me up, if I eat something that I don't think is a 'good' food then I feel really guilty/anxious and then binge a bit. Then think oh crap, I best go back strict. Horrible cycle. Can't pin-point when this started, I used to have such a good balanced diet.

It has been a roller coaster for me as well. I been counting my calories, but its so hard to stay at the calorie intake, I have been over by 4 to 5 hundred. I pick up and try again the next day. But every week is different. one week i eat so little the next alot. I work out 6 days a week for 30 minutes everyday. But the paST few weeks havent been able to do my workout cuz of my back. Now what?
