Not funny anymore!

OK..this isn't funny anymore....another week without weight loss (now 5 weeks). On the plus side I have lost another half an inch from hips and waist which means in that 5 weeks a total loss of 3 inches from my hips, 2 from my waist, 1 and a half from my bust and 2 inches from the tops of my thighs....I am so pleased with that and so are my clothes as they no longer have to stretch their fibre as much! LOL.........BUT.....I need to see the scales moving also.

I know that some will say that it is muscle which weighs heavier, but to be honest I am not able to exercise much(for health reasons) and cannot believe that the very little I am doing is turning to muscle. I accept it may be fluid retention, but that means a LOT of fluid.

I am 5ft 1in, weigh 221lb (was 230lb 10 weeks ago) and started at 1200 calories with no exercise. After a couple of weeks was able to spend about 20 mins a day playing wii tennis (not too active, 4 cals a minute). I have now upped my cals to 1380 and eat some cals back of my exercise which now includes 30 mins on stationary bike at 5 cals a minute (HRM....2 of them!), time split during the day. I don't eat them all back as if i was just sat still I was using 2 cals a minute anyway, so I decided that I am only making an extra 3 cals a minute not 5.

My food intake isn't the best. I am unable to eat most fruit, and have only just been allowed to eat 1 banana a day or 1 plum, no citrus fruit or apples. I mainly eat ready made meals for my main meal as I have difficulty cooking (again health reasons). I am still well under my sodium intake, averaging about 1000, not the 2500 it allows so its not due to salt helping water retention. I drink 2 litres of water a day plus other drinks (redbush tea etc)

I am so fed up. I know that I would say to someone else to forget the scales and be happy with the tape measure and I am..... BUT

Why are you so worried about the scales if you say you have lost inches? Surely losing inches is a visible improvement, the scales are just a number?

It sounds like you're actually pretty much on track with weight loss, it's recommended 1-2 lbs weekly, so right now you have lost 9 lbs over the past 10 weeks. And inches!!! Congrats!! It is difficult to see the scale stop, but I agree that the inches lost are pretty amazing. I'm not sure for your height and weight, but are you getting enough calories in your day? If you go too low, then your body can go into starvation mode, and hold onto every little calorie since it isn't sure when it will get more. Maybe you might need to look at that, and actually eat a little bit more to lose weight. I just checked another site, and to lose another 10lbs in 10 weeks, you would aim for 1611 calories daily. For 15lbs it would be 1366. Hope this helps!!

Thank you :)....obviously I am delighted with the inch loss, but just want to see that scale move!.....I'm of on holiday later this year and my present weight does not help with holiday insurance!.....like most other people on here I am worried about upping my calories, I don't want to see the weight I've loss start adding back on.
Still, this week I will keep my cals at the present 1380 and eat back all the extra cals I use exercising and see what happens before I add even more cals onto my daily intake...again thank you, it does so help when others take an interest in your journey :)

You're getting smaller. Isn't that the ultimate goal anyway? Sounds like you are having success and losing weight at a healthy rate. Stick with it and you'll get the results you want.

In the beginning for me, I'm glad I measured my waist cos it can b weeks bfore scale moves but I'll c the loss on the tape. Suddenly after 4+ weeks I can lose 2-3kg. N it's permanent. It bs that it converts to muscle. The diff in muscle tone and it's effects on the scales is minimal over the whole period of weight loss. Some trainers still say that and it annoys me.

I don't really seem to lose any weight when I'm careful. If I'm NOT careful though, I definitely gain. A lousey deal if you ask me BUT, if we just don't make the scale our master and focus more on how we feel, well, I guess I can say that that's where it's at! Great going about losing the inches. The feeling of looser clothing is very, very motivating. Keep it, rather than the scale as your guide and you will float up and over the obvious obstacles! Keep up the good work! : )

The scales are really not what matters, its how u feel and your changing shape that is whats important.
That being said, its great when u actually see those scales shift, but sometimes, its good just to see that you, we, I have not gained any.
    Congrats on losing an inch.
    That is whats really important.
    Scales are just a guide....

I feel you there. I spent about 4 months yo-yoing a few pounds but not losing a thing on a permanent level. I was nearly always under my calorie goal, and had increased my exercise significantly. I lost several inches but that stupid scale wouldn't budge! A couple weeks ago, I figured out I was taking in way too much sugar, and cut way back. I was pretty miserable for the first 48 hours (blood sugar drop = headache, stomach ache, and insomnia for me) but I lost a pound that week and 2 the next. Take a look at the nutrition levels under reports. See if you are taking in too many carbs, sugar, or fats. Also find out if you are able to do some sort of water exercise. A lot of public pools will hold water yoga or aerobics classes. Water exercise doesn't put much stress on the body, but it's a great workout :)
