Not fried fried eggs - a tip!

I absolutely love soft fried eggs with lovely gooey runny yolks. I dont like that they have to be fried to taste good though. About 3 months ago, I started microwaving them instead. It results in perfect 'fried' style eggs, with no fat or anything other than egg being used, and all you need is the microwave!
Crack your egg into a microwavable cup.
Take a fork, toothpick stick, or knife with a point at the end and prick the yolk. Dont worry, the yolk wont break, it just makes sure it wont explode!
Now this next bit is a little trial and error because it depends on your microwave and the size of the egg.
I have a 750W micro, so I put the egg in for about 25-30 seconds. What you want to do is leave it until most , but not all of the egg white has turned white. When there's still a little bit of uncooked white on top, that's when you want to stop microwaving it.
Next, leave the egg for about a minute. It will continue to cook, and that little bit of extra white that wasnt cooked will finish cooking.
Tip it out of the cup and onto a plate and try it. You should have a perfect runny yolk, lightly cooked white and no fat or oil used at all! Yum.
Like I said, it may not work the first time, i had about 2 or 3 gos before I got it perfect, but once you've got the times right, its perfect each time, and it only takes a minute or two! Easy!

Yeah, I've been making these "microwave coddled" or "micrwave poached" eggs for years and they're great on toast!0

Poached routine quite often.
Turn of the electric kettle and get the water boiling.... (empty the dishwasher whilst it comes to a boil)
Start my tea mug brewing and use the leftover boiling water to poach egg.
The boiling water in a sauce pan. Add egg. Lid on. Low-med heat.
Start toast, by the time the slice of toast is ready under the grill, the egg is perfect. Remove egg with slotted spoon, put pan in now empty dishwasher...egg on paper kitchen roll..
Add milk to tea, the tea is nice a strong by now.
Slide egg on toast, the softness means no butter required, fresh ground pepper added.
Fill me jug if water for the day, and head to the office (work from home).
Goodness I am such a bore.
I sometimes I mix it up and hard poach the egg and add lowfat cheese to the toast under the grill!!0 -
I love fried eggs. I find that a really good non stick pan and a squirt of frylight does the trick.
'Proper' fried egg and next to no extra calories.0 -
Thanks for that, I'll def give that a go

This is PERFECT for me as I love fried eggs. And seems such a healthier alternative cooking method.0

I love a "fried" egg too! I use a really good non stick pan and do it fat free, just get the pan hot enough! I love them on a slice of fresh bread!0

Ick. I would never use a microwave for cooking, in fact, I don't even warm up food in it. Our microwave has become a dust collector.
I will take fried eggs in filtered bacon fat any day.0 -
great tip!0
