Lost, gained, lost again

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight, gained it back and then lost a lot of weight again? Did you lose the second time the same way you lost the first time or did you change things around? Also, did your body react any different the second time?
I'm starting/trying to lose again and want to hear other stories.
Thanks in advance.

A few years ago I lost just over 50lbs. The only change I really did was limit myself to fast food once a week (I went to Burger King every Thursday) and used my stationary bike for 30-60 minutes each night. I kept it off by just going to the gym for 30-60 minutes a day most days of the week and occasionally going for a run and I ate whatever I wanted for the most part.
This time around I found it a bit harder to lose weight so I joined on here and started counting calories and doing other exercises. I hate that I let myself gain the weight back since I'm here doing it all over again when before I was only 20lbs away from my goal.0 -
Great topic, Matt! I will be very interested in the answers as well. I am finding it tougher to lose this time around...0

I've always been overweight.. =( When I was around 15-16 I think I was in the 160's pushing 170.. I'm not sure, I didn't have a scale back then.. We got an elliptical and I used it everyday 30-45 mins, and did crunches on my exercise ball! I could tell that I was losing weight, I would guess 15-20 lbs maybe.. I gained it ALL back and some =( This time I'm actually doing it, I'm keeping up with my food, and weight unlike last time.. started out at 214, last weigh in was 193.something =p0

The first time I lost was easy. I had gastric bypass surgery but didn't make the lifestyle change and ended up gaining back 60 lbs of what I had lost. This time around, I'm doing it the right way. It's taken longer but I've made the change in my life and eating habits that are required for loosing weight. I've now lost those 60 lbs plus a little more. This time it's staying off!!!!0

My ENTIRE LIFE! i was a fat kid (75 in kindergarten, 175 at 10yrs old) and up to 293 as a hs freshman, down to 190 by jr year, up to 283 by soph yr of college, down to 175 by graduation, up to 265 for a few years then up to 277 last july, got down to 220 in nov, hurt my knee had surgery up to 245 in feb, back down to 215 in mid april, and then back up to 235 last week...talk about a ROLLER COASTER...
it's gotten much harder and comes off much slower as ive gotten older. i remember how much i used to work out, and i try to again, and my body can't take it and i get worn out and stop exercising...and ironically enough when i dont exercise i dont eat right either in a "who cares" mentality...that's the hardest part, staying motivated...0 -
This is my third time in 4 years. I keep losing and keeping it off for 6 months then gaining. The first time was lots of going out dancing and drinking the second by juice fasting and counting calories - this was easy but I quit tracking and gained 25. This time I started using this app and site. My plan is to make this a lifestyle. So if I have to watch and track everyday so I don't gain back again. Well that's ok with me. It's worth it to me. I don't want to keep doing this yo yoing.0

I lost 100 lbs about ten years ago using a low carb diet and ALOT of excercise. I became a fanatical runner...I ran about 10k six days a week, strength trained three days per week. I noticed that i was getting too pooped at the end of my runs to go further...i wanted to do half marathons. So to fuel myeself I started introducing carbs back into mt diet.
This worked fantastic and I was running longer harder faster then ever...looking pretty cut as well. And wow..since I spent all of my life at the gyn or on the trails, I was burning cals like mad...so I had to eat and eat to fuel up. I had hit that magic zone I had only dreamed of...I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. Back came the pasta, rice, junk food even.
This was good, I thought. I was VERY pround of going from a couch sloth at 225lbs to a half marathoner at 123lbs. I was fit as a fiddle as they say.
Then..dada...dramatic music...just before going on a vacation I decided to do a heavy workout. Pulled my back doing dead lifts.
And that, my friends, was the beginning of the end. Making a long story short...eventually I damaged myself so severely by trying to push past the pain..I had to stop running. Yep, I stopped running...but I forgot to stop eating..gained weight.
My back finally healed to the point I could try working out again...it was a painful, frustrating disaster. I was out of shape, a lot heavier, my stride, everything changed. long story short..I gave up. Other things became more important than spending three hours a day working out. In retrospect, it was unsustainable.
So now, here I am, approaching 50 years old...needing to lose 100 lbs again... Ive lost close to 40 of it now, since December
Its been harder in a way..but more sensible. Back low carbbing..I am diabetic now. Main difference is in workouts...I want to stick to a mangeable program instead of the gruelling schedule I did ten years ago. It was unrealistic to think that I could sustain that in the long run. That was my BIGGEST mistake...that and eating too much excercise cals.
I must admit I do smile at all the people on here killing themselves working out..then of course the raging debate about eating back you excercise cals. Yep, been there, done that!
Thats my story0 -
I kind of already told you my story on your first post. I lost 25 pounds on Weight Watchers twice and gained it back. I am a perfectionist, and when it comes to eating that does not work as a "lifestyle change" for me. Both times I would eat one crappy thing and that was the beginning of the end for me. I have come to realize that I can't be perfect all the time. There are going to be days where I want a greasy fast food burger, ice cream on a hot day, or maybe I go to a party and just want to get drunk. My goal this time is not perfection, it is to be good 90% of the time0

I started my first calorie controlled diet 36 years ago! I have lost and regained weight maybe 10 times over the years, each decade weighing more. Last time, 4 years ago I lost 48 lbs without calorie counting, just cutting portions but it took me 2 years to loose and only 18 months to put 28 lbs back on. This time I have lost 26 with calorie counting. I fear that I will put it all back on and am desperate to know how others avoid doing so. I am hoping this time it is different, but then I do every time.
It will be very interesting to read other posts on this subject.
I don't think loosing it again is much different, I am probably not loosing as fast at 50 as I was say at 17, but then I would fast for 3/4 days at a time, hardly to be recommended. I am losing a lb a week which would indicate that with the correct deficit, you still loose.0
