Yellow mustard has ZERO cals...a healthier alternative to mayo and what not. BUT, when you add Subway's mustard to a turkey sandwich, it adds 10 cals....wtf? Is there mustard special or something? Just wondering LOL......

Technically, mustard has zero calories per serving but if you put gobs on your sandwich, it obviously has some c alories because its a solid food. I think they're just accouting for bigger servings.0

Technically per the FDA, any foods that are 5 cals per serving or less can be advertised as zero calorie, but there are sure to be calories in larger quantities.0

There is an allowed 10% variance on food labels. So, figure everything has 10% more caloried than you think it does.0

This must be why McDonald's is advertising their coffee as having zero calories... I always thought a cup of black coffee had 5 calories... (not that it matters to me, 'cause I don't drink coffee... just saw the signs)0 -
another trap are those pam sprays - 0 cals per serve ( 1 sec spray) but 40 cals her 5sec spray (or something like that)0

While I don't have a comment about mustard... mine is about subway.
One time at my local subway (long before MFP & I had met lol) I was inside ordering with my then boyfriend. A car pulled up to the drive thru. They ordered LIGHT mayo. Well the worker looked at us.. and I'm still not sure why...& goes 'light mayo and reg mayo are the same thing here...too bad they don't know that. OH WELL"
The bottle was clearly marked LIGHT... but the lady said it was regular. I don't know the calorie difference (I have never checked), but to people who ARE counting calories, this is just unacceptable.
I was soooo shocked and disappointed by that comment, considering I love subway & they are supposed to be a "healthier" option. Sabotaging people with the light vs not light versions of condiments is not ok... I don't know if that is the case everywhere or was just a angry employee or whatever the case was.... but it still bothers me.
Sad, but very true!0 -

Funny. I worked in several restaurants. You can't believe their websites' calorie "guesses" or trust the ingredients at any restaurant. Just assume the menu/website is under by 300 minimum per dish. Hate to break any bubbles, but restaurants are run by people who pretty much don't measure accurately. Takes too long. And whatever is handy, is going in your food. Never assume accuracy at a restaurant.0 -
While most restaurants try to make every meal they make standard, meaning the same amount of anything every time its made, that just isn't possible. I've worked in many restaurants and as long as there is a HUMAN measuring out whatever is going on your food, there is room for human error.
At Subway, how often is your bread cut exactly down the middle? One half of that bread has more calories than the other. They don't measure out the condiments. When I worked at Burger King/McD's, there wasn't a measure for the condiments (including mayo), we just smeared it on. Anywhere you go there is a good chance that the calories listed is off by a good bit.
Just one more reason among many why fast food places should be used in moderation and not an every day thing. +/- 100 calories every once in a while is really no big deal, but every day or meal and it will add up.0
