OCD ankle (not obsessive compulsive disorder :) )

Hi all,
I have been having pain in my right foot so after failed physical therapy, my doctor ordered an MRI and he found that I have an OCD (osteochondral defect) and I have to see a specialist in July..my question is has anyone had this and is surgery really the only option?
