Going home for the first time in 2 years!

So I've been on and off MFP over and over and so far can never seem to stick with anything. My husband is a chef so it's really hard to stay on track. (He sorta sabotages me) I'm going home in 3 weeks to Canada for the first time in 2 years and I'm probably about 20 pounds bigger than the last time they saw me. I've actually considered cancelling this trip or refusing to see anyone except my parents and brother. (who are supportive of anything and everything) - my aunts and cousins will be mean and make some mean comments I'm sure. I need someone to help me stay motivated and who will listen (or read I guess) when I'm faced with a huge plate of something glorious that my husband has made. Also I'd like to lose what I can before I go so at least my clothes will look a little better on me. I know well fitting clothes can make you look more fit but all my stuff right now is stretching over my belly. I really feel like I'll never do this on my own

  • if you go, you're relatives could make you feel like crap so that will ruin your trip and make you wish you never went. ive had some elders in india say i had put on weight when i was twelve, and it really hurt.

on the other hand, the negative remarks could motive you to lose weight when you get back, and make them sorry they ever called you fat.

you could put off the trip even, for another couple of months- but you do have three weeks to shed about 7lbs.

the biggest problem is your husband 'sabotaging you'. I know it feels good to feed the ones you love, I love cooking for my little sister. However, he doesn't have your best interests in sight, so I think you should confront him about this.

lastly, if you are finding it hard to stick to it, the truth is your just not deciated enough. i am in no way criticising you as i found dieting a big yo-yo for me. i did weight watchers for six months at christmas 2010 then put it all back on and more. im on atkins now though, on me fourth week of induction and there is no temptation.
i would recommend atkins because the decrease in carbs means your blood sugar doesn't spike so cravings are eliminated and appetite supressed. this would work for your husband's cooking as he would still be able to love you and cook you yummy meat dishes eheh :)

    i hope i helped!
  • I'm sure your relatives dont understand how much their comments hurt you :) I think that if you havent seen your family in that long, you shouldn't cancel the trip :)

In my opinion, I think that if you're this anxious about visiting them at this weight, you should take that as motivation to lose it so that the next time you visit you'll look and feel so much more confident around them :)

3 weeks is more than enough time to make a positive change, try sticking to a healthier diet and doing more exercise. That way, even if you don't lose any weight at all, you'll still feel better and you'll be making a good start :)

I think you should talk to your husband about you losing the weight and having a healthier lifestyle. If he's such a good chef, I'm sure he knows plenty of delicious healthy foods for you both to try, and telling someone about your weight loss plans will make you more motivated to stick with it and carry through :) Maybe your husband isn't trying to sabotage you, maybe he just doesn't realise how important this is to you, if you talk to him I#m sure he'll understand :)

    Good luck :)

I've added you as a friend so if you need any help or motivation I'm here :)
