Heavy Bag Help

When doing side kicks on the heavy bag, is it supposed to swing? I'm using my heel. I've tried low(shin area), middle(gut area) and high (face area). All of them make it swing like the ****ens. Am I doing something wrong? I'm new to the heavy bag world. And I LOVE it! I have always loved weights, kickboxing, etc. The husband got me a heavy bag for Mother's Day. One of the best gifts I could get!
Also, if anyone has an great workout routines for it, that would be great too!

It should be knocked the **** back for sure. Side kick is a powerful distancing kick. That bag should MOVE!
It should NOT spin, though. Spinning would indicate poor kick control.
Some people attach them at the bottom as well, to keep them from flying all over.0 -
Excellent! It is not spinning. YES!! I feel like I'm doing something right!0

I try to practice movement and timing my kicks around the bag. Helps a lot with distancing, power, and speed.0

It should DEFINETLY be moving, but I agree with above, NOT spinning. Practice moving around the bag as it moves and not just staying in one place kicking...0
