Low resting heart rate.

I am not sure where to post this question. Since it's general I guess here. (I may be wrong.)
Anyway, today I went to have a dental implant put in. While I was in the chair getting ready to be put under for this, my mom and I looked to the heart monitor. It said my resting heart rate was 42.
My question is there anything to worry about? That's low isn't it? Do I now have to go to the doctor?

I am in no way a doctor so this is just what I have learned so far in nursing school... Are you positive that was the pulse rate and not some other number you saw? The normal range we learn is 60-100 bpm anything out of those parameters we are to report. Everyone is an individual though so this number should be taken with a grain of salt. My resting heart rate is always between 110-120. This is my normal so it is not a problem. Yours may always be low and so maybe its not a problem. You must discuss that with your doctor to find out.
I think it would be abnormal for a dentist to put someone under when their resting heart rate is as low as 42 because it is low and being put under will most likely lower it more that's why I ask if maybe you were mistaken with the number you saw. Next time I would speak up and ask the dentist or healthcare worker. You are your best advocate and deserve to know what is going on with your own body. The best thing to do is to call and make an appt with your regular doctor. It never hurts to get checked out.
Note: I am not a doctor or even a nurse so anything I stated here is just learned information you could find on google and not from personal experience. Please see your doctor for the answers you are seeking!0
