My nine-year-old daughter cheers me on every step of the way. She does yoga with me, walks with me sometimes, and is helping me try out new vegetable recipes that the whole family will eat.
We've had talks about the fact that mommy's not dieting, she's changing the way we ALL eat, so we can ALL be a healthier family.
I love her to death.0 -

I try not to talk about losing weight around my kids. I always serve well balanced healthy meals. My problem is indulging in sweets after the kids go to bed lol. Both my husband and I are really active adn we instill that in our children also. On the weekend we do one active outing with them like a hike, rollerblading, walking or biking. They think that it is really cool that we are active as a family.
This summer we will be doing weekly family challenges and posting results on a dry erase board. We are doing a Burpee challenge, a run, sit ups, push ups etc. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. (Mine being a proper pull up).
Luckily our kids go to a great school where they have active choices like running club during lunch recess. The kids just run circles around the school! I really hope to instill in my children a love for health and fitness and of course everything in moderation. They love the active family time that we have and ask for it often.0 -
We have 5 kids; the older three are my step-kids that we have had custody of for 8 school years, and then two together. (18, 16, 14, 5, and 4). The older kids are all athletes, and they are very proud of me for getting back on track. They don't say too much - because they are teens - lol - but they have each said something pretty sweet and profound to me, especially now that they can see the results. My little guys are more aware of health and nutrition - even though it is not something I am overtly teaching. The 5 year-old, who is almost 6, is asking what foods are healthy and telling me how he loves to exercise. On Mother's Day, he made a book at school all about me, and one of the pages said, "My Mom's favorite food is..." and he answered "Diet Food!" So he is picking up a LOT just from the conversations that I am having with my husband, older kids, and friends. There have been some fun, teachable moments.0

My 13 yr old son walks with me and cheers me on every step of the way..The only thing that bothers me is no matter what I put in my mouth he asks " how many calories does that have?" "Do you think you should be eating that"0

We don't talk about diet or weight, but we talk about healthy choices, and always have. Really its nothing new in our house, the only difference is that I don't sneak treats after the kids go to bed anymore lol.0

That's when you respond, "Probably not. By the way, you're adopted."0 -

I'm not sure that my kids are aware of the weight loss part of it. But I've been talking to them about the importance of being active and eating the right foods to keep their bodies healthy from the time they were about 1 and 3 (now 7 and 9) so it's just part of life to them, really.
When I go through my depressive periods and stop working out, or don't cook as much, they *definitely* notice, and they will comment on it! They serve as two daily reminders that I need to be mindful of my actions and treat my body right!0 -
My 9 yr old twins have really taken an interest in "healthy" eating with me. It's not all about losing weight, it's about making healthier choices. They are reading food labels, etc. and learning quick what's good and not-so-good0

My daughter is 8 and does the same thing! She loves Jillian Michaels now and always asks me if we can do the workouts lol She's not quite at the vegetable recipe testing stage, but here's to hoping we'll get there soon lol0 -

healthy eating is a solo affair in my house..............
I just explain that I ate way too much, for way too long..........and now i am paying the piper so to speak...........0 -
My kids quit trying to keep up with me. I drive them crazy. : ) Now my grandkids think my running is cool. My granddaughter said "Grandma, I wanna be a runner like you when I grow up!" Right now my grandkids love it when I take them to kiddie ks. My granddaughter wants to do a mud run.0
