The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg is a fascinating book that describes how the brains forges a habit and how new ones can be created and old ones modified.
The key to understanding habit is the “habit loop”, which is cue-routine-reward. Our brains are wired to create these loops in order to avoid becoming overwhelmed by the countless decision trees that we make every day. Should I brush my teeth before or after I shave? Do I put my left shoe on first or my right? We make these kinds of decisions automatically through habit. Habits can be constructive or harmful. But they can also be modified or changed completely.
The book was recommended by a friend that knew I was keeping a food and exercise diary. It turns out that this is a very powerful tool in changing your life for the better.
Most of you already know this, read this book and find out why.

I've been considering reading this for the past month. I just put a hold on it at the library. I'll check it out0
