Just over 7 weeks ago I completed my first marathon, I fully expected to feel under the weather for the first couple of weeks but over 7 weeks have passed and I physically feel awful.

I did damage my left knee the week before the marathon, during the marathon something went twang in my knee and I've been referred to an orthopedic whom I'm seeing 2 weeks today. Just over 2 weeks after the marathon I feel and hurt my other knee, 5 weeks on I still have a huge scab on there which seems to be scarring and not healing.

In general I feel wiped out; achy, tired, nauseous. Something just feels wrong, I get light-headed and dizzy all the time, my pulse, temperature and BP are all constantly elevated as though I'm reacting to stress when it was over long ago.

Has anyone else had this? If not any ideas?

Seems a little long. I am 3 weeks out and even with a post marathon bout of brochitis, I am feeling pretty good. I am running though and I feel much better when I am running.

It is possible you have something more nutritional going on?

Brandy, thank you for the reply (and congrats on completing a marathon)

I'm glad you agree you think it may be too long. Nutritionally I'm doing better than I was during training, 4 weeks ago added a mulit-vitamin and iron tablet into my daily intake with no changes. I'm trying to aim for macros of 40C/30P/30F so maybe that's it?

    Getting frustrated now! lol

First congratulations on finishing. My goal is to someday do an Ironman so completing a marathon is a key piece of that. The only thing you might consider is seeing a doctor to make sure you do not have any sort of infection or (although remote) some rhabdo going on.

That doesn't sound normal at all. Generally, you should feel pretty much back to normal within a week or so. It's possible that immediately after the marathon when your immune system was lowered that you caught some type of bug that you are still fighting. After this long feeling bad I would recommend seeing a Dr. and getting some blood tests done.

Thank you both for replying. I think I may have to attempt to get into my doctors and see what they say. I did bring this up a few weeks ago but they pretty much ignored it so may have to be more forceful.
