I have the Garmin 450cx and it will tell calories burned based on heart rate only with the GPS turned off so I've been wearing it during RI30 and my treadmill runs.....seems like everyone here as the Polar....just wondering if the 450cx is accurate....I'm guessing it is?? I bought it for outside runs originally, but after having twins I've not been able to run outside much so I've been doing 90% of my working out indoors.

Megan do you put your weight/height/age in it as well? I assume it is about as accurate as Polar HRMs. All HRMs aren't exactly perfectly accurate in terms of calorie burn, but they are much more accurate than the treadmills alone :-)

Yes! It has a profile with your weight/height/age although I had to add about 20lbs to my weight ughhhhhh lol

Paulsmisses, thanks!!!!! :-) I love that picture!

I think it's fine and just as accurate as the Polar is :) They all have room for error of course but they are a nice guide for workouts! :)

And yes you already know I love your photo :)

No HRM is accurate, it estimates your calories burned based on many measurements and aspects.

I totally get no HRM is 100%, but I also know I've read that some are really way off calorie wise, so I at least want an estimate that is as reliable as possible :)

I also have the 450cx and it works with gps turned on??

It might, I turned it off because since I'm not outside and don't need it it saves the battery! I was thinking if you left it on it would show your distance as 0 and would mess up your calorie burn?

ETA: for instance when I was using it for races and outdoor runs I would have to charge it almost every night, but now I've used it 3 days for about an hour of workouts a day and it was 97% when I started today battery wise!

Like I said above it was showing my distance at 0 and wasn't showing accurate calories with the GPS on.....like I wasn't moving. So I read on another forum to turn the GPS and it also totally saves the battery when your inside. I obviously don't need the GPS doing a workout video or running on the treadmill ;-) Saves me having to charge it every day as well.
