Boxing for a beginner?

I'm considering looking into some boxing and/or kickboxing classes and was wondering if there is a certain level of fitness needed before beginning something like that?
I've been attending circuit training classes twice a week for about 3.5 months now, and am considerably stronger than when I started, but I'm still at least 100 pounds overweight.
Would it be a good idea for me to keep doing what I'm doing now (circuit training and muscle building classes 3-4 times a week, with a couple cardio days in there as well) or would I be OK pushing ahead with boxing/kickboxing?
Any advice would be helpful!

There's a guy who's 100 lbs overweight in my friend's boxing class. He's amazing. Just do what you can and stick with it. Just don't do any exercises before boxing-it will exhaust you!0

Cool..thanks! Good advice0

Yeah, my friend's class has all kinds of ability levels in it. I'm not significantly overweight, and Miguel, the guy who's 100 lbs overweight, can do way more moves than I can! I understand about feeling intimidated, but give it a shot!0

haha...yeah, you know, I am amazed sometimes by what I can actually do....just gotta take the first step! I think I will go ahead and check it out, and if I find that I can't do it, well....that's something to work toward0

Hey-I did it once and realized I needed to become more fit myself! Three months later, I feel more ready to rejoin now!0

You can definitely start right now. When I was taking Muay Thai classes class members were all different shapes and sizes. Great cardio and self defense0

I would definitely do it! I just started a few weeks ago and am in love. It's so fun and works out sooo many muscles I didn't even know existed.0
