Any tips for beating sugar cravings?

I seriously LOVE sweets, and I find that every single time I try to change my diet so that it is healthier, my sweet tooth gets the best of me. I end up eating a ton more to compensate for the few days that I didn't eat any sweets. Is there any way to make these cravings go away? If I don't give in to these cravings, will they eventually go away?

I'm the same way. The only thing I love more than ice cream is MOAR ICE CREAM. The good news is that when I stop eating it for a while, the insane cravings go away.

Try not to let yourself get too hungry. I've found that snacking helps a lot. I used to eat 2 candy bars a day, and I replaced them a few months back with peanuts. Cheap and easy to store at my desk, eating peanuts made it so I never missed my daily Twix fix.

The other thing I do is that I do allow myself to have a sweet treat. I just have to make it harder for myself. I don't buy ANYTHING at the grocery store when shopping. If ice cream or cookies make it in my house I'm going to kill the whole bag. So when I have a taste for some ice cream, it's not in the house, and as long as I'm willing to walk to the store or to McD's and get a cone, then it's allowed. It's about a mile there and back, and usually I decide it's not worth it. But just knowing that I could have gotten it if I really wanted to makes me feel better.

    Don't deprive yourself.

Find ways of fitting it into your diet that are within reasonable portions so you don't overcompensate.

Thats a really good idea; making myself work to get it. The grocery store is about a mile from my house and I am sure I wouldn't feel like walking a mile to get candy. But having the option will make me feel like I am not depriving myself. Thanks for the tip!
