I make mine kind of the same way except that I dont add the pepper ot tumeric and mix it with black beans. 1st time I made it (simple) kids and husband hated it. But when I made it the spanish way with the black beans they loved it.

The only reason I added the turmeric is because I really like the color of it, I don't really think it does much for flavor so definitely could be left out!
