P90X Yoga

I just have a random question I have been thinking about. I am currently doing the 30 Day Shred, but have been wanting to get back in to yoga aswell, mainly for the calming, relaxation effect, rather than exercise and calories burnt. About 4 months ago I did a beginners yoga class for 6 weeks and I loved it. My brother is doing P90X, and he told me I can do the yoga part if I want to.
I have been reading up on it, and it seems like its very advanced and hard. My question, do you think I should start P90X yoga, and just do the best I can, or should I buy a different yoga dvd, that isnt quite as advanced? Thanks

Go for it, it is pretty hard but you'll feel great after.0

My husband had never done yoga before we started P90X. He struggled the first 2-3 times, mostly because he wasn't familiar with the poses, but his improvement has been massive. Because I've done yoga in the past, I didn't really consider it "difficult" but it's definitely a cardio/strength workout that also works on your mental calmness and focus. In other words, if you're looking for pure stretching and relaxation, this probably isn't for you. You'll probably want to go to a hatha yoga class or buy a hatha DVD. (P90X yoga is Ashtanga, a totally different philosophy than hatha.)
All that being said, it's by far my fave workout of the week. I feel sublimely relaxed afterward, and it's a total bonus that I also burned some calories. Try it out a few times.0 -
Since it's free, try it a time or two. If you don't like it, try something else. I personally, dislike the workout. I don't really like power yoga, and I like my yoga to be mainly stretching and relaxing. Also, YogaX is really hard on my weak wrists. You may, however, find that you really like it.
if you want a simple beginner yoga that is all about relaxing and good to do before bed, try Crunch Candlelight Yoga. Last I checked it was streaming on Netflix. I love this for a recovery or rest day. It would also be a good compliment to more intense workouts.0 -
p90x yoga is kick *kitten*! I love it, but it's a long DVD. I usually split it up on a weekend day (my yoga day was always saturday) did 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 before bed. I would sweat so much that I'd have to stop and clean my yoga mat off!0

I am on week 7 of P90X and I do the Yoga every Friday. It was very hard the first few weeks but it gets easier and is a great workout. Just make sure you have a pillow for crane.0

I have a few days left before I finish my first round of P90X (whoohoooo), and this was the first time I have ever had anything to do with yoga. I am not a flexible person, and I am not good at balance. That said, I don't think this is intended to be relaxing in any way.
True, the 1hr 40 min routine is basically split into two parts, with the first half comprised of the ashtanga series (strength) and the second half more or less devoted to stretching and balance. But for me, I think of my yoga x Thursdays as one of the most grueling, challenging, and exhausting workouts of the P90X program. It isn't easy. If you want a challenge, go for it. If you want to relax, do something else.0 -
Thanks everyone, im going to give it a go tonight :flowerforyou:0
