I feel we should instill healthy nutrition in our children - child obesity is on the increase and it is important that we get our children into good habits now, so that they will carry it through to adulthood and hopefully avoid the pitfalls many of us fell into.

On this subject, I thought it would be a great idea to share healthy lunch box ideas with each other (perhaps this should have been posted in the 'Off Topic' section?

What ideas?

My daughter's favourite is brown bread with tuna mayo and coleslaw on the side with a fruit juice and fruit stick.

My daughter does ok, we limit her sweets and she eats fairly healthy, We do not eat out so Happy Meals are a rare treat for her. I think honestly the best thing you can do is set an example, My daughter has been watching us for the last 6 months and now she is trying new things and eatting much better, she wants to get exercise and plays as much as possible.

my 4 year old is a very funny eater, he has got what appears to be a phobia of fruit and veg to the point where he is physically sick if any go near his mouth, obviously we manage to sneak them in via homemade smoothies and vegetable based soups but it makes school lunches a nightmare.
he either has a egg mayo and ham sandwich with a yogurt (no lumpy bits of fruit got to be smooth) and flapjack or pasta salad made with egg, chunks of chicken breast, and cheese with a yogurt.
id be interested in some more varied lunch box ideas as i find what he has now very repetative

Our oldest daughter is an amazing eater. She will try anything and her favorite veggie is spinach. Shes not a big meat eater, but understands that she has to get protein from other sources if she doesn't want to eat meat that day.

Our middle child is the opposite, she will eat any meat and cracker combination, and most fruits/berries, but she gags if a veggie touches her lips, and she doesnt' like rice/potatoes/pasta. Shes an ok eater. We don't do fast food often, she doesn't eat a ton of candy/junk.

My little guy is a great eater too, lots of veggies/fruits/meats. Both he and my middle daughter are dairy and nut free, which makes it a bit harder though.

I 100% agree that kids need to learn about healthy eating too. Not just adults. They younger they start, the better off they will be as teens/adults. It doesn't meat they will continue eating well after they leave us, but we can always hope. I was thinking about this a few weeks ago, my two little one don't know what a poptart is, they won't eat white bread, and they have never had a frozen food (like pizza pops, waffles, nuggets etc)
