Swollen

  • Swelling + pain = go to doctor. Could be a muscle strain, could be something very serious! When in doubt go to the doctor. My mom had a large pimple like bump on her leg that she thought was nothing. Luckily, when she took my Dad in for a Dr's appt, the dr noticed it because it a boil in serious need of being popped. Turned out be caused by an MRSA infection, which gone untreated could have caused serious health problems. So my advice is don't assume that just b/c you are trying to lose weight that everything your body does is a result of it. Call your doctor & let him decide if you need to come in or not.....

So I stopped at the Urgent Care place and I feel like it was a waste of $50. I know, I know, better safe than sorry but that doctor really didn't have any answers for me. He ran my blood work and said all was well. My blood pressure was a little elevated, they took it 2 times and both times it was 153/95. He couldn't tell me WHY I was swollen just said to take the water pills he prescribed and follow up w/my regular doctor at my next visit on the 28th. He pressed on my abdomen and said I may need a sonogram. That was it. No big deal. He said it could be the food from the ship but he can't say for sure. Could be the beginning of high blood pressure, yadda yadda yadda. I wasn't very impressed with him. Hopefully the water pills will help and nothing bad will happen.

Thanks for all of your concern. You are all very sweet!!

Just please watch it carefully and follow up with your primary care doctor. Sometimes it takes a visit or two to really find out what is going on! Take care!

Will do! And thanks again for all the concern. I remember when I saw my mom's feet all red and swollen and when I finally got her to the doctor they were amazed she was even alive!!! She died 9 months later. Don't want that to be me. She had lots of other problems but that certainly didn't help.
I'm going to bed. I'll check back in in the AM. Have a wonderful evening all and stay healthy!!

My legs (especially the right one) have been swollen from the calf all the way down to my toes. It looks like I have little sausages attached to my feet. Not attractive at all. I thought it was from all the food I ate during our cruise and maybe from all the walking. Well, we have been back for 3 days now, I'm drinking lots of water (trying to flush any extra sodium out) (I don't add salt to my food but not sure how much was in the food on the cruise). How long should it take for the swelling to go down? Also, the week before we left I had a steroid injection in my right knee, could that have anything to do with it?
Is there anything else I can do to get rid of he swelling? Sometimes it looks like it's going away and then an hour later it looks bad again. Anyone have any suggestions? Please help.

Edit: And for some reason, my right ankle really hurts when I rotate my foot (like when you try to pop your ankle bone, it is very painful) I haven't fallen or twisted it or anything???

try taking some ibuprofen for a few days. If there is no pain I personally wouldn't worry about it. But thats me.

When I went to Curacao I gained a lot of weight from the salty food, alcohol and heat. The swelling and water weight took about 1 week to go away. I dropped like 10lbs in a week. That being said, definitely monitor the situation carefully, especially if you are experiencing pain.

    Keep us posted :flowerforyou:

They didn't do an ultrasound on your leg? Hmmm

Have you called your regular doc yet? If not, give them a call and let them know what's up. I know you're probably tired of dealing with this already, but five minutes on the phone with your regular doc is worth the peace of mind.

Let them know it's only on one leg and now you have a headache today.

I agree. Headaches that don't go away combined with a single swollen leg that is not fracture related are a dangerious combination. Don't let some guy at the ER (who's probably sleep deprived) dismiss the symptoms. Your personal physician will be more compelled to take your symptoms seriously.

Well, the swelling seems to have gone down and the headache went away with some hydrocodone (I get really bad headaches). So I will keep monitoring it and if I still feel there is a problem I will give them a call.

Thanks again everyone, you are all sooooooo nice!!

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm just going to be the broken record though... Call your doctor at least to let him know what's been going on and get his opinion.

I was home all day with a terrible migraine today. I took Vicoden (msp) and some extra strength ibuprofen but it took me sleeping ALL day to finally go away. I also got TOM on Friday so that may have been some of the swelling although I don't usually swell at that time of month. I have lost 6 of the10lbs that I gained during vacation. The swelling seems to be gone so that's a good thing.

Thank you for checking on me. I should be back on track tomorrow, as far as logging in and checking the threads.

Memaw, I had horrible migraines for two years! associated with Menopause. no accusation, but hormones can really screw things up. Ask your doc! HRT really saved my sanity!

    Have any of these?

    Swelling

    Gradual onset of pain

    Redness

    Warmth to the touch

Worsening leg pain when bending the foot

    Leg cramps, especially at night

Bluish or whitish discoloration of skin

    http://www.emedicinehealth.com/blood_clot_in_the_legs/article_em.htm

It's the symptoms of a blood clot....it's immediately what I thought when I read your original post. Don't let me make you all worried...I'm not a physician or someone who could give you a personal opinion, but maybe you didn't get the proper care that you needed and you need a second opinion. I would go to my primary care physician if your symptoms continue...just to be safe. Good luck and thinking of you!

The only pain I have is when I rotate my ankle (like when you pop your ankle bone) and that's not all of the time. The swelling has gone down. No discoloration of the skin, not warm to the touch.

I really think the migraine is TOM induced paired with stress, we just found out that they will be cutting our hours/salary by 20% starting on Sept. 1. That is a $600 a month less than I make now, so I have been stressing about paying the bills and maybe finding another job.

I am so touched by all of the concern. Thank you so much. You guys are the greatest!!!

I have an appt on the 28th and I plan to discuss all of the with the doc.

    Thanks again everyone!!
