Hi, I used elliptical cross trainer yesterday and mfp showed calories burnt, 444 calories for 20 minutes. Are these figures alright? I felt good and I was really sweating and all but does it really burn this many calories.

Secondly mfp only gives calories for sit ups and push ups in minutes. Is there a way that we can count calories in terms of repetitions and number of sets?

(Enter your weight and time on this website. It is the USDA website and should be pretty accurate)

MFP doesn't know how intense your workout was, so to me, those numbers aren't always accurate. You could have done 30 minutes at 3.5 miles/hour on low resistance, or 5 mph on high resistance, and MFP will give you the same number. I tend to go by the number on the machine, since it knows what I actually did and where my heart rate was. I don't expect complete accuracy, but I think it's more reliable.

I don't have an hrm but I would take my pulse and then enter it into this calculator. Then I subtract the figure for my resting heart rate to get my net burn. MFP doesn't take into account what your effort is like. Even the machines often don't. The one at the gym I was using didn't account for resistance, just distance. so if you were at 1 for resistance it showed the same burn if you were on 15.

Seems a little high - I use an elliptical at the gym that factors in weight, HR, resistance and distance and I will usually zig zag from 4 MPH to 6 MPH and the most I have burned according to the machine is about 10 calories/minute...I have worn my HRM on occassion and found my burn is lower than what the machine calculates but about 40-50 calories

it will occassionaly scroll how many calories an hour are burned based on all the periameters and mine fluctuate from about 525-625 depending on the factors above - the faster I go the more calories/hour burned.

444 for 20 minutes seems rather high, but then again don't know what the resistance/MPH and your weight (larger you are the more calories you will burn)

I checked on another website after entering my weight calories burn come to 356 calories for 20 minutes. The trainer that I have at home was showing 200 calories at resistence level 2 out of the total 8. Because my trainer also didnt know my weight may be it just gave the calories according to the 20 mins time spent. What you are saying 525-625 per hour is the same as my cross trainer mentioned 10 calories per minute.
