What's with dried fruits?

I usually have oatmeal for breakfast and I want to add something to it so that I don't feel hungry after about an hour and a half. A lot of people who eat oatmeal add dried fruits and nuts. My question is: Why dried fruits? Why not fresh? I always stock on fresh banana, apple, mango, and papaya as my dessert after lunch and dinner. If I add them on my oatmeal, is it any better than dried fruits? or it's the other way around?

I dunno - I typically add fresh fruit to my oatmeal - blueberries, strawberries or banana, and now that summer is here, fresh peaches will be going into the next bowl!
I suppose dried would be good if you didn't have any fresh on hand, but I'd choose fresh over the dried any day.0 -
some people used dried fruit because it's easy and doesn't spoil. some use dried because they like the taste and texture. Some use dried fruit because what they like to add isn't in season and thus dried is available or more cost effective. It's just a matter of taste.0

It comes down to a matter of preference, do you prefer raisins or grapes?
Personally I prefer putting fresh berries or fruit in my cereal or oatmeal.0 -
I put frozen berries in mine. They are always on hand.0
