If you set your goal to lose 1 lb or less you will have more calories. Also, every calorie you burn with exercise is one you may eat :)

When I started I was just dieting. I was a really big heavy guy (270 pounds) and my calorie intake was about 2000 a day, and that was fine, I wasn't uncomfortable.

When I got to 260 MFP adjusted my intake down to 1920 or something, and that was lean but I was Ok. When I got to 250 it dropped me down to 1850, and then it was starting to get hard. When I got to 240 it cut me down to about 1780 a day and that just wasn't enough food and I was $&%in' miserable.

So then I went to Walmart and blew $300 on an elliptical machine, and now I'm doing 30 minutes a day, earning 400-500 extra calories and I'm feeling great and I get enough to eat and I'm still meeting my weightloss goals. I also really feel like I've made a real lifestyle change that I'll be able to sustain and not gain the weight back.

Best move I ever made - I love the changes from the exercise. Added resistance training now too, which is more good-good stuff.

My BP is now 110/65, my resting pulse is 60, I can put out at 15 cals per minute 'til the cows come home. It's kewl, and none of that would have happened if I'd stuck to just dieting.

Anyways - if you're hungry you have 3 choices:

1 - adjust your goals. Less calorie deficit = more food = slower weight loss
2 - Change your cooking. Learn to do more with big, bulky, filling lo-cal stuff. Learn to love cabbage.
3 - get off the couch and earn some extra. Get some exercise, eat those exercise calories.

I do a combination of #2 and #3, and it's working for me.

Exercise IS the key to higher numbers, and therefore, MORE food!
It doesn't always have to be awful either. For my exercise, I walk almost every day, (weather permitting!) I also dance to a fast oldies CD that my husband made up of all my favorite old songs. (Like "Love Shack", Wild, Wild West", "Mony, Mony", "Footloose", and "Gloria")
It's free, (unlike a gym!) fun, and I can even watch tv at the same time, so I never get bored!
I also use the Wii Fit, and jog to that, which is a lot of fun, and easy too!
