P90X Shoulder question

I am wondering if this program would be right for me...I had shoulder surgery 3 years ago and although I can do push ups, I don't believe I can do a pull up and I am not sure that the strength will ever be 100% in my shoulder. I am doing the C25K plan and I am an ex-cheerleader/gymnast, so with that said, I am not in the worst shape but not in the best either! I have seen the infomercial for P90X about 20times and I have had a few friends recently begin this program...however, I read somewhere that it is for people that are already in fairly (great)/good shape who are looking to get super cut. Here are the reasons I want to do this program : 1. Lose Weight 2. Get toned 3. Shed fat 4. Look great!!! But I would really love to hear from anyone who has completed the program that wasn't in tiptop shape when they began...and even better, maybe someone has done the program with shoulder issues:) Thanks for your input in advance!

Meg

Instead of the pull ups he has some band options that one of the people in the video does, which is a lot less intense on your shoulders.

My sister and I started the program and she is and was already in super great shape and I was not (I use to be) but anyways her results have been a lot better so far then mine. i am not sure what her diet is although and that might have a lot to do with it. But I do know that she is able to do more pushups and such then I am but I am far more flexiable when it comes to the Yoga days.
  • I have gone through P90X a couple times now. I am a 5'11" 47 year old male. When I first started I weighed just under 200 lbs and wasn't exercising much. My bodyfat % was 20% to 21%. P90X does have a "fit test" that you can take to see if you are ready. I took it and passed all parts of the test, but some just barely.

    here it is:

If your plan is to finish the C25K plan and then do P90X, I'd say that sounds like a good progression. You will probably have to modify some movements in the program, but that's okay. I did too. Instead of the pullups you can use elastic bands over the top of a door and pull down to simulate the movement.

I ended up losing 18 lbs on that first round of P90X, down to 14% bodyfat. My fitness in all respects was MUCH improved. I'm a BIG fan of the program.
