Is anyone else trying to get in shape in hopes that it will increase the chance of getting pregnant?

My husband and I have been trying for about 7 months, we're going into our second round of Clomid to treat anovulation, and I'm trying to eat better, work out and ultimately lose some weight in order to be healthier for pregnancy. Just wondering if we could get a little support group or team started.

Thanks for reading,

My husband and I had been trying for 10 years. After $100k of nightly shots in the stomach and back side, doctors visits, IVF treatments, multiple miscarriages, I have given up. But I do know that the more healthy you are, the more likely you will get pregnant. But personally, I truly believe that living a stress free life is the key. If you're older, and there is a lot of stress in your life, that doesn't make for a good situation. Right now, getting pregnant is not as hard as it used to be, but staying pregnant is still a little difficult. Being healthy is part of it. Having a good thick womb lining helps. I believe that there are yoga poses that can help with this (but you'll have to ask a good yoga teacher). Also, I'm sure your doctor has put you on vitamins which is important. I was on clomid for a long time, and I think it used up my eggs early (because we have a set amount and clomid gets us to pull more out during each cycle). And I'm sure your doctor told you that you should be on the vitamins and you and your husband be healthy starting 3 months before you try conceive (no smoking for either of you, avoid drinking, folic acid, etc.). But once you are pregnant, you'll have to be very careful with certain treatments. I would avoid yoga, acupressure, and acupuncture and even massage (unless you have someone who really knows about the problems of miscarriage associated with certain poses and treatments in high risk patients). I'm not a doctor, so you need to consult her/him. But these are some of the things that I learned while trying to conceive.

Good luck to you. Every one of my friends and family have gotten pregnant, so I must be one of the exceptions. They have really improved in fertility treatments just in the last 10 years so the chances are much better than when I started.
  • Thank you so much for your response... I am so sorry for the difficulty you had trying to conceive. I can't imagine what you went through - it puts things into perspective, as I had begun to get really frustrated with trying. 7 months isn't very long in the grand scheme of things, and its easy to get impatient. I had a doctor tell me previously that I wouldn't be able to conceive based on my body's stubborn refusal to ovulate, so we're against the odds - I have begun to ovulate (although not very often without medical help, I'm afraid) over the last year, so we're hoping we have a chance. It's such an emotional rollercoaster.. I had no idea until we started trying how difficult it could be.

I have been on prenatal vitamins for the last several months, and have been working to keep my stress levels low... I would like to start some yoga soon, and have queued some videos on Netflix to try out. There's a studio close to where I live, but I'm so self conscious about all my bumps and lumps and rolls I can't imagine being comfortable sticking my bum in the air and trying to get in all those poses with people watching. I think I'd obsess the entire time about what their inner monologue...

"My god, that girl's got a huge bum! She must eat her weight in bread daily!"
  • Does weight loss ever trigger pregnancy? I felt like it did for me. I might be crazy though!
  • Well, I know that being a healthy body weight certainly helps with the conception process (from what the doctors have told me), so I don't see why not! I'm willing to try just about anything at this point.

In retrospect, I should have started our journey this way, because I want to be as healthy as possible should we happen to conceive, but live and learn.

My Fiance and I were not really trying but we did nothing to prevent pregnancy for 6 years. I decided to get healthy and lost 45 pounds. I felt great and then I got my BFP! I am so happy that I was healthy before I got pregnant. I feel like I helped make her a healthy happy baby.

I hope it works for you!

Weight has a lot to do with not getting pregnant. For one thing it effects hormones. 7 months is not a long time to try to get pregnant. I know it seems like it but it's not. They say to try a year with no results before going to a specialists.

I know relatively 7 months is not a long time, but I was previously diagnosed with infertility, and have been dealing with issues with my hormones for 3 years so we're at the specialist stage already. I'm hoping weight loss will jump start things.
