Diet or Exercise? BOTH, thank you, but DON'T DROP EXERCISE.

You see it flying around a lot - that diet is 80% of the weight loss equation. Well, there's some real truth to that. On the other hand, I know that my goal is not "weight loss" - that's part of it, but I'm aiming for longevity, fitness, energy, strength, good mood, and as much illness avoidance as possible. As soon as you care about more than "weight loss" (for instance, focusing on FAT loss would be a good start...), exercise becomes the key player.

This is taking for granted that you are ceasing, or working towards ceasing, really unhealthy eating habits, whether it's too much food or all the wrong kinds of food, but assuming that much, yeah - exercise.

AND EVEN if you have not made ANY dietary changes, have major food issues and are seriously obese, adding walking to your life every day will significantly decrease your elevated chances for all kinds of major illnesses - instantly - and improve your health, even if you lose no weight at all.

So please, please do feed yourself right, get help if you need it with emotional eating, education about how to find, cook, or buy food that's good for you that you will like, and dedicate to that.

But there is NO reason not to take the step of either going from totally sedentary to moving every day, or going from half-hearted exercise and base-line daily movement to more challenging butt-kicking, more days of the week, every week - RIGHT NOW. You can find ten minutes and figure something out. Today. And the payoff psychologically and physically (as you will feel it inside even when you don't see it outside yet) will be immediate.

Make a note to convince yourself that YOU'RE MORE THAN A BODY, YOU'RE ALIVE TODAY FOR MORE THAN "WEIGHT LOSS", AND YOU CAN DO SOMETHING TO EXTEND YOUR LIFE AND IMPROVE YOUR ENERGY, PRODUCTIVITY, MOOD AND, YES, FAT LOSS - this very day.

    Eat to lose weight.

Exercise to feel good and get healthy.

The two really are separate issues, though closely related of course.
