Good practice or OCD?

So I discovered the bar code scanner on the MFP mobile app. I have to say, this has made my life much easier in trying to calculate calorie and nutrient content. I am not one to sit there with measuring cups and scales. But, I also find myself scanning while cooking and digging through the garbage to get the boxes or wrappers to scan the calories (I try NOT to do this). So, is this good practice and does anyone else do this or...am I OCD and should seek help from MFP anonymous??? Any thoughts?

It's better to do it before you toss it in the trash...

I find the more OCD I am about everything surrounding weight loss the better off I am, except when I get all OCD perfectionist.

So relax, it can be both.

You scan the barcode, and it finds that item in the database and adds it into your diary. A little easier than searching for it.

Been there, done that. I've had to dig several wrappers out of the trash. Luckily, they were mostly on top with nothing yucky above them. Otherwise, I would just have done a search and the product is usually in the database.

Good to know I am not the only one. Like I said, I usually don't make habit of it but my wife does the cooking and I don't expect her save me the garbage all the time just so I can bust out the scanner. But yes, if mixed in with dirty diapers and other nasty garbage...I would just take a pass.
