grrrr Crunchy Hip

I feel like....crap (mentally)! I am taking my second day off (in a row) from working out. I have been working out 5-7 days a week (sometimes 2 times a day). My hip is clicking or grinding or something with every step I take. It's not a new thing, as I've experienced it in the past. This time though, it seems excessive. Even if i lay on my back and raise that leg, it pops. I can even feel it by putting my hand on my back -at the hip joint, next to my spine. Anyone get this? Know what it is? I haven't had any injuries, no broken bones etc.
I sooooooooooooooooo HATE taking days off. I am not in a lot of pain but I would call it discomfort at this point.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, and yes, it sucks. =/ I've notcied that the best thing I can do is not tense the muscles that I am not working on (i.e. relax everything but your stomach muscles when doing sit ups). The more you resist, the more your body is going to fight back. I'm training at an acting conservatory, and we learned a lot about the body in my movement class last year. Relaxing unused muscles/joints are the first step when you're having problems like this.
Another thing you can try is go to the pharmacy and ask if they have any vitamins/supplements that help with your joints. They may just be a little rusty and need some extra help. (I know mine do -__-;)
If it keeps hurting after you've tried this, it may be a good idea to get it checked out. Even going to a chiropractor might be able to sort things out for you. I'd say for now, work on areas of your body that don't hurt those joints in question. That way you won't really be taking a day off, and you'll still get a fair amount of exercise for the day. =]
Hope this helps!

I have lots of hip/pelvis problems, my hips pop out of place all the time. It sounds like possibly something is out of place a bit. Either that or with the grinding noise it could also be loss of cartilege in that area, something you'd want to get checked out by a doctor, if the chiro doesn't help. Could also be the start of arthritis, too. But most likely, just something a little out of place that can be fixed fairly easily if you have a good chiro.0

I do not know if this is what you have, but I found an article about this kind of thing:
http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/otherhip/a/snappinghip.htm
If this is what you have, it suggests that more stretching is one way to treat it, and that the syndrome listed above is not serious. You can give the article a read.
If there is pain, however, I'd get it checked out.0 -
Well thanks for all the info. I did take the day off..entirely. I didn't even sneak in an exercise tv workout
Yesterday I did a 20 minute one (which I consider nothing) and hubby rolled his eyes at me because he had told me to take 2 days off! Tomorrow I'm back to the elliptical and bike. I'm going to lay off the exercise tv workouts though, because I think with all the bending and hopping around, could make it worse. At this point I am going to ignore it. If it persists or gets worse I'll go to my 'specialist happy' doctor and see whats up! It's just very annoying this grinding, popping noise/feeling.
I hope it's not like my knee. Never had a problem with it before. I then started walking 10 -13 miles a day (a few years back) and it has been goofed up since. I haven't had it looked at either though. But I baby it a little during squats and whatnot and also has this bizarre pulling sensation when I simply walk up stairs :grumble: From walking! jeeze! :noway:
I'll also check into the glucosamine/chondroitin supplements....my geriatric greyhounds are on it and they seem to be doing well. I'll get my own though- I'm not keen on 'beef chewables'.0
