Hi everyone!
Next week starts week one of marathon training for Rock n Roll Savannah on Nov 3rd! This will be #13 marathon. Looking to get back to some of my old race times!
BUT I am also going to try to lose some weight while doing so. I have tried to lose while training in the past and its been hard. But I also had to mindset of "I just ran 15-20 miles, I can eat whatever I want". I don't want to do that this time.
Looking for some peeps who are training and racing this fall.
Anyone?

I think you should be able to train at a caloric deficit up until about 8 weeks out(assuming you eat back all your exercise calories). I just did a stretch of 60+ mile weeks at a deficit, was able to lose the weight I wanted to lose without being fatigued all the time. I think it would be those 15+ long run days that you need to really make sure you and eating like a champ. :)

Thanks and I do agree with you!

What do you eat pre-long run?

I take protein after my training sessions to recover faster. thats all I have I am not an expert runner though so I do not give tips that will hurt or endanger someone

Either a bowl of oatmeal or a bagel with a little butter. That's pretty much what I eat every morning.

I managed to put on 10+ lbs while running 50+ miles per week. If I use my running as a license to eat, I WILL gain weight. Part of that is probably a function of the fact that I've been running decent mileage (~ 200+ per month) for the last 5 or 6 years now.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I think a lot of this is going to be mental...eating and running! ha! Its going to be a different mindset...but I think I am ready. should be interesting this time around.
Hoping for a PR this fall!! yikes!

Tracking here on MFP is the only thing that REALLY helps me get the pounds off.

I've only got one marathon under my belt (Disney last January), but I trained the entire time at a caloric deficit and hit my goal of a sub-4 hour marathon. I'm basebuilding for my second one this December and generally plan to do the same... stay at a caloric deficit and on long run days (say, 14 miles and above), if I'm really hungry, I'll eat a little more. I lost ~10 lb. during my last training program (and was at a healthy BMI to begin with... just the higher side of it).

    Happy training! :flowerforyou:
